"Congress: Bingo with billions." - Red Skelton
It's Mother's Day. ABC network news tonight noted it with a brief piece that featured Hillary Clinton reading a piece about her mother.
Does that strike anyone else as something akin to stacking the deck? As in free press coverage of a future candidate? Of all the people they could have chosen....
Just wondering.
I'll spare you the details, but I'm one extremely proud papa. Both my sons have distinguished themselves recently in their chosen professions. I hope they understand how grateful we feel to be their parents. They are, indeed, a gift from God and we're thankful for who they have become.
It shouldn't surprise anyone that some sermons get the preacher's juices flowing more than others. It may be a topic or passage close to his heart, one particularly timely given contemporary circumstances, or the extra slice of BACON he had for breakfast.
I didn't have any bacon this morning but I was exercised about the sermon. We're just beginning a series in the (typically ignored) Book of Ezra. This morning's passage, chapter 1, draws attention to God's sovereignty, a truth which I told them ranks #2 of those people need to understand.
(Care to speculate on #1?)
God's sovereign (and good) control of all things is a truth that has sustained my family through some pretty stressful times. It has done the same for Pam and me, especially at key junctures of our 43 years of married life, and will undoubtedly be an essential truth as our life together continues. The aforementioned sons and their families will need the assurance and stability it brings.
Yeah, I was into this morning's message.
Had fun in second hour, too.
