Iron Chef
I spent five hours this morning working on the truck. After lots of time spent getting all the old bondo off and every surface sanded with 80 grit - deconstruction - today began reconstruction, getting new body filler on and sanded smooth. I'm using the product we used in the classes I took, a 2-part filler that I mix by adding a ribbon of hardener into a small amount of the base. The first time I added way too much hardener and it was setting up within a minute. But by the third or fourth batch I was getting it right.
I put it on with a small spreader, wait for it to harden, and then sand.
And sand.
And sand.
And sand.
Some of the areas I worked on will need another layer but it will be thin and not require as much sanding. And the more I do this the better I get at not only getting the mix right but applying it so that a little less sanding is required. Today I focused on the wheel well covers, one fender, and the hood which has one small dent on the leading edge. So there's plenty of opportunity for increasing my skill and efficiency.
We're not having second hour at Pathway tomorrow because of the holiday weekend. Just the worship service. I'm going to feel like I didn't do my work.
Short post. I'm exhausted and hungry, not necessarily in that order. So I'm going to fix myself something to eat and turn in early. Yeah, I'll be wide awake at a stupid early hour, but that's OK. Eat when you're hungry, sleep when you're tired.
