"A nickel ain't worth a dime anymore." - Yogi Berra
By the time I bought the head unit, the wiring harness, and the adapter to make it fit an '09 Kia I have about $140 in the new stereo. I'm thinkin' that was a pretty good outlay.
Yesterday I connected my iPad to the unit through the USB port on the front, called up Handel's "Israel in Egypt" on my iTunes playlist, and cranked up the sound.
YES!
And I'm still fascinated by the display that shows me song data when I'm listening to FM stations.
This is going to keep me entertained just fine on my drive to Portland, OR next month.
I drove Pam to work yesterday so I could take care of some things on the Kia. On the way home I drove by the house of neighbor who bought a nearly identical '59 Chevy truck (see last night's post) to show Pam. He was out in the driveway with a couple of other guys looking it over so I got out and talked to them for a few minutes. I think he's just about decided to leave it as-is and drive it as a "survivor." I think that's the right decision with a truck as rare and original as that one.
This morning I went to the indie coffee shop I've been frequenting since discovering it a few weeks ago to work on stuff for the two Sundays I'll be gone on vacation. While there an older man came in wearing his clergy uniform - black pants, black shirt, clerical collar. I was wearing Nike running shoes, basketball shorts, and gray T-shirt. Another reason to go indie vs. chain.
I'm friends on Facebook with a couple who were in our Riverside church back in the mid-80's. Good people. Their kids, who were very small (and one unborn) at the time are now young adults starting families of their own. Daughter and SIL have a 1-month old baby girl who had heart surgery this morning to repair a congenital defect. The pictures they posted of the parents and that little tiny girl just prior to surgery were touching. Tugged at the heart and reminded me of how strong is the family bond, even in its earliest days.
(The surgery went well. T'ank you, Fadder! Now the tiny one begins the recovery process)
At some point you have to wonder if millennial-old hostilities based on ethnicities (Middle East) or sectarianism (Islam) can ever be quelled. Might it be the case that any effort to ameliorate the conflicts only draws well intentioned people into the carnage with no hope of success? At what point do you let two stupid boys beat each other to helplessness so they can learn that mutual self-destruction is the only outcome of their hatred?
Yeah, I realize that can't, or won't happen. But I wonder.
I want to live here!
Isn't this about the most idyllic setting you've ever seen? Imagine going out to work in your garden, looking up, and seeing that view. Plenty of room for a half dozen chickens, a couple of goats, two or three breeding rabbits...
How can GM have any cars left to recall? At this point they have to be dipping back into the 70's.
Pam got an email yesterday saying the position at the hospice has been filled. She thinks she may have been passed over because we're leaving for two weeks of vacation in a week and they need the vacancy filled immediately. Whatever the reason, she's disappointed and I feel bad for her. But Someone knows what's best, and he's in control.

I'm thinking that SOME of the FM stations will identify the song being played because the station sends out that data. Other stations do not. Hit & miss.
