"To be content with little is hard; to be content with much, impossible." - Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach

For Father's Day they let him sleep in.

I was up at 2:30 and by 5:00 the 2-hour switch on the coffee maker had shut it off. That was fine because at that point I took one last swig and headed out to the garage. OK, I was actually out there about 3:30 getting things set up by the light of the full moon. Having the door up also helps release some of the heat from the previous day before we get today's edition of triple-digit temps.

Today went MUCH, MUCH better. Not without incident (compressor failure that was my fault) and my technique is a work in progress, but I'm getting the hang of this. And I can tear down, clean, and rebuild a paint gun with the best of 'em.

I took this pic after setup and before spraying. These are some of the smaller parts to get this second layer. The door and tailgate are out of camera. The black is splotchy because that epoxy layer takes to the body filler differently than the bare metal.

I was spraying by 5:45 and finished a little before 9:30, including a trip to Home Depot to get more compressor oil. Then it was cleanup time, taking down the plastic and taking up the masking paper on the floor. OK, there may be a few areas that didn't get covered adequately but hey, it's a garage.

These black parts are now a light gray that matches what you see here on portions of the cab and bed. This layer goes on in "2-3 wet coats" but I only had enough (1 gallon) to do two. It will get sanded flat and smooth to provide a good base for the primer, which will get sanded smooth(er). Lots of sanding in my future.

After church three weeks from tomorrow I'll leave on vacation and start the drive north. Pam will work Monday, fly to Portland Tuesday morning, and deo volente, I'll be at the airport to pick her up. We're eager to be camping and wish life provided more opportunities than this once-a-year excursion.

Early this Monday morning I'll leave for Seattle to see my folks and get back Thursday noon. That gives me two weeks to get everything ready - new tires for the trailer, another layer of varnish on the sides, and a few other miscellaneous tasks. Pam's going to make a new set of sheets for the mattress to replace the worn out ones that tore coming off after last year's trip. So any further work on the truck will probably wait until after we're back.

Another GM recall, this time for bad ignition switches on Camaros. At some point they should just tell everyone driving one of their cars to take it back and get something fixed.
One of the 2015 Cadillacs - I think it's their top-end SUV - has electric cup holders. Yeah, electric. They're recessed and pop out if you press a button. To get them to retract you give them a little nudge and the motor does the rest.

Most sports I watch only when they get to the playoffs, maybe the finals. Especially if the season has so many games that no single contest means a whole lot. We didn't watch all of the Stanley Cup but enough to get into the excitement of the series. We rooted for L.A. just because we're west coast people but I was too tired to see them win the cup after two overtime periods.
Haven't watched any of the NBA finals. Professional basketball holds no appeal.
The D'backs are sneaking up on .500 ball, although according to the ESPN site they've lost their last three games. So I'll wait until their in the World Series.
