"A lawn is nature under totalitarian rule." - Michael Pollan

Remember when toothpaste tubes could be rolled up from the bottom as they emptied? Why did they change that? Besides taking up too much room in the medicine cabinet it's really hard to get all the toothpaste out. New ain't necessarily better.

I like small towns with diagonal parking on Main Street, hardware stores with wood floors, and courthouses with lawns.

Sometimes it's hard to tell if my brain is working its magic or off on another hair-brained journey into stupidity. I need some kind of warning system - a flashing red light on the back of my hand and a recording that says, "Danger, Will Robinson!"

I gained three pounds on vacation. Time to get back to the gym and back on the paleo bandwagon.

I worked at the coffee shop this morning. It was very comfortable inside that air conditioned space, but outside it was 104. That's hot. I watched a guy cleaning the shop's windows and shook my head in admiration. That guy was hustling! And good. I have no idea what he makes doing that job but he's earning every cent of it. Told him so when he came to do the inside of those windows.

Got passed by a Lamborghini while driving through L.A. I didn't get a good look at it - he was going way too fast for that - but I can tell you that pumpkin orange is not a good color for an Italian supercar.

The TV show "Tiny House Nation" debuted while we were on vacation so we recorded them and have watched the first two of the three. These two have both been under 300 sq. feet, which is well within the "tiny" classification. We're ready to (way) downsize, but not that cozy. However, what we both find fascinating and inspiring is the more efficient use of what is otherwise wasted space. Couches are also storage space, tables have slide-out leaves, and beds are a mattress on a base configured to be multi-purpose in some way (no more dust bunnies). Better use of otherwise wasted space means less need for things like dressers and cupboards, which allows for fewer square feet and the savings that comes along with that.
Hmmm.

The people are the best part. Sometimes it's frustrating when some of the best people live so far away.

We still roll our toothpaste tubes up from the bottom. Admittedly, we use an Acco fastener (clip) to hold it as it rolls up but those tubes aren't metal anymore (which better held shape but had other inherent hazards)
