"Philosophy is common sense with big words." - James Madison
I leave on vacation in 2.5 days. It's time.
"Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." - Hanlon's Razor
Please.
I took Steve to the airport this morning for his flight to MI where Michelle and Jason have been visiting her family for about two weeks already. He'll spend several days back there and then the three of them (Steve, Michelle, and Jason) will return.
I went from the airport to b'fast with former student/colleague Josh W. for our monthly shop-talk. Our waitress wasn't as sharp as the butter knife wrapped in my paper napkin but we eventually got things worked out.
From there down to ADCO to get two more aerosol cans of guide coat. Weird stuff that comes out of the can more like atomized soot than spray paint. I put a light fog on the fill coat I sprayed before going to Seattle, and that slight discoloration shows me where I have/haven't sanded. While there I asked the very helpful gal behind the counter if the heat would be a problem with the primer coat that comes next. She thought it would be a good idea to wait until the end of September or the beginning of October when things cool off some before doing more spraying. So once I get this sanding done (hours and hours left to do) I'll start on the engine rebuild and postpone the rest of the body work.
Our son Josh plays ice hockey on Sunday afternoons. Last Sunday he got hit in the bicep with the butt end of an opponent's stick. Hard. As a result he has a completely torn bicep that will require surgery next week, followed by one week in a splint and six weeks in a sling. Freak incident, entirely unintentional on the other guy's part, and the kind of thing that just happens in life. But I sure feel bad for him. They leave on a vacation trip to Yosemite in about 10 days and besides the pain and hassle of surgery (never mind the cost) this will put a crimp on their trip.
Pathway is having an ice cream social tonight. OK, it's actually frozen yogurt and those who can are to show up at one of those local shops. Low key, just hanging out. It should be down to about 106 by then.
I got an email from the buyer of my VW this morning. It arrived in Dubai. Unfortunately, the first time he drove it the oil light stayed on the entire time. I understand his dismay! I'd be freaked if I'd just paid a significant sum for a car, then the $$$ to have it shipped half way around the world, and then discovered the engine was bogus. Except I'm certain that's not the case.
He asked what oil I put in it and I answered 10W30, the standard.
That was in February when we had temps in the 60's and I was using the heater on some drives. It's summer in Dubai, temps are 110+, and it needs a heavier weight oil to deal with that heat. So I'm sure once he makes that change everything will be fine. Hey, the engine has less that 400 miles on it, there was no problem when it left here, and sitting on a ship for thousands of miles wouldn't change anything.
OK, I gotta take a shower. Pam and I are going to get dinner - probably Chipotle - on our way into Yogurtini. And that workout at the gym has me odiforous.
More from my older brother:
My wife was in labor. Suddenly she starts yelling, "Don't, Can't, Shouldn't, Wouldn't, Won't."
"Doctor," I cried, "what's wrong with my wife?"
"It's perfectly normal," he replied. "She's having contractions."
