"If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way." - Napoleon Hill

Poor Pam. She is so read to be home, but that airport mess in Chicago has given her grief. American Airlines called her yesterday afternoon to tell her the flight from Grand Rapids to O'Hare was cancelled. They called at 3 a.m. to tell her she was booked on a United flight from Grand Rapids to O'Hare four hours later than her original booking, but that flight left 30 minutes late. No problem; she had a 3-hour layover at O'Hare that turned into almost a 4-hour layover because of delays in Chicago. She's exhausted and will be that much worse when she finally gets here.

I spent several hours working on the engine today. Not so good.
Because I had two engines I took the best parts from each, including the flywheel, intake manifold, starter, harmonic balancer....
I started today's work by installing the starter.
FAIL.
After posting the problem on the forum it seems that I have a 6v starter that won't mate to a 12v flywheel. Different gears that don't mesh.
Tomorrow afternoon I have to lay on the floor and count flywheel teeth to confirm that diagnosis, and if it proves to be the case I order a 12v starter. (pricey)
Then I rebuilt the better of the two carbs. Never liked that job. Too many teeny, tiny parts. The good news: I have two of them so I could open the second one to remind me how the first one should go back together. (Would have been bad news otherwise.) Interestingly, the second one was missing an internal spring about half the size of those in a ball point pen.
I have NO confidence that I got this part of the rebuild correct and I don't like the way the float needle sticks. But I'm months away from getting the engine in the truck and firing it up, so that suspense will just have to build.

They said the rain would start about 10 p.m. last night and last throughout the day. It started today, about 3 p.m., and is winding down. So the total has fallen short of hopes but the temp has fallen, too. At 6 p.m. it's 72 degrees, cooler than it's been in months (literally) and I have the windows and doors open. Yeah, the humidity is at 99%, but after having the house closed for months and the AC on 24/7 I'll take the humidity for the fresh air.

Since typing that I've watched the evening news and learned that parts of Phoenix, including the airport, got slammed with lost of rain and high winds.

George Clooney got married in what they're calling the wedding of the year.
Sorry; I'm not impressed.
It seems like a wedding would feel a little gratuitous when a couple has been living together for years, often with kids.
Why bother? what's the point?
Yeah, I don't get it.

There's almost nothing in the house to eat save for b'fast food (BACON and eggs) so I need to go somewhere for dinner. From there to the airport to wait for Pam. I'll have time to kill in between but I'm hungry and I'll take reading.
And some time to go over tomorrow's content again.
