"A consultant is someone who saves his client almost enough to pay his fee." - Arnold H. Glasow
Busy day, but productive. I'm OK with that.
Got the sermon written, a day ahead of my self imposed deadline of noon Thursday. Still have to make my slides, but I intentionally leave that until later in the week because that process helps me think through how I want to say things, putting the visual and verbal together.
I didn't really work on the engine today unless you count the 8 minutes it took me to attach the vacuum line. The fuel line, backordered, arrived this afternoon, so I'll install it tomorrow morning.
The significant progress happened online. I didn't know anything about transmissions and clutches when I started this rebuild except what they do, so I've been reading on a lot of sites about the correct way to attach the transmission from an '85 Chevy to a '59 truck. I still have questions about the pilot bushing and clutch diameter. I posted those on the truck restoration forum and got a reply from the recognized tranny guru who said if I sent him my phone number he'd give me a call and walk me through some of the issues. He also provided the contact info for a specialty shop in Texas that will custom make a clutch disk with whatever spline count and diameter I need. So I expect a phone call tonight from "Lugnutz" that will be a huge help.
The truck forum (Stovebolt) is a lot different from the VW forum (The Samba) I used when doing the Beetles. The VW forum had a lot of guys who were dismissive, sometimes even snotty, to people who asked newbie questions. On the Stovebolt everybody seems both helpful and encouraging.
Today it dawned on me that the toilet makes a perfect mop bucket. When the water gets dirty all you gotta do is hit the handle and, whoosh, the dirty water is gone and you've got clean water in its place. And if I want to use something like PineSol I can add it to the toilet water and get it cleaned at the same time. Shouldn't have taken me this long to figure that one out.
Word is that Secret Service agents leaked the story of the guy on the elevator packing a gun standing next to the President. The director, Julia Pierson, knew it happened but didn't disclose it during her testimony before Congress despite questions that should have brought that info out.
Fragging
When I'm working at a coffee shop, as I was this morning, I wear my earbuds and listen to Pandora. Usually classical music. It helps me filter out the noise of conversations around me that otherwise catch my attention and disrupt my focus.
This morning I'd been at it for 30 minutes or so, earbuds doing their job, when I noticed the guy sitting with his back to me at the table right in front of me was showing about 8" of butt crack.
Once I spotted that disgustment it was like a visual magnet; my eye kept going back to that horror like the accident you can't help but look at.
Earbuds are powerless against that and a blindfold makes it tough to work.
His cup of coffee lasted way too long.
