"A woman's guess is much more accurate than a man's certainty." - Rudyard Kipling
Middle age guy walks into Starbucks right in front of me this morning. Green scrubs = works in the medical field. Tricked out Toyota truck = probably not a CNA. Jacket over his scrubs with big letters on the sleeves and the front, "MD," and across the back, "Emergency," = ER doc who thinks he's a pretty special human being.
Speaking of uniforms, over in the corner is a late-30's guy wearing faded blue jeans, untucked button-up shirt, and gelled hair in the perfect "un-combed" look.
He's a pastor.
I spent about three hours there doing research for this Sunday morning. The third Advent candle (at least at Pathway) is "Joy." What Greek word(s) get translated with that English word, are there shades of meaning between them (if there are different Greek words), and does our English word accurately reflect them?
In our adult class we're going to talk about the virtue of humility. Same process.
Tedious work, but I find it enjoyable. Digging for gems.
This afternoon I used contact cement to glue some indoor/outdoor carpet to the back of the cab behind where the gas tank will go. Between the glue fumes and my Wagner station on Pandora I had a really good time.
It's just starting to get cold in Michigan. Winter is gaining a momentum that won't hit full stride until late January and will then continue well into April. One February I determined that the only remedy was to get in my car and begin driving south. I'd get out every 100 miles or so, go into a local hardware store and ask if they carried Carhartt. If the guy says yes I get back in the car and keep driving south. Only when he says, "Huh??" is the area habitable.
Sometimes I think a similar tactic might be a good idea. Get in the car and drive away from the metro area (any metro area). Stop at a one-off diner every 100 miles and look at what the men are wearing for shirts. Don't see any plaid? Get back in and keep driving.
Does it seem like our national self-esteem has taking a series of big hits over the last few months? Today's release of the Senate report on interrogation techniques fits the pattern.
