Got nothing done on the truck today; didn't so much as touch it. I did call the vendor to learn that the wiring harness should show up the middle of next week. By then I'll be read for it.
Today's car fix came via a thorough cleaning, inside and out, of the Falcon. A guy who works at the auto parts store I go to is interested in buying it - he likes old Falcons and has admired it for months - so I wanted her looking her best when he calls.
You can read the article here, but the short version is that the Progressive Insurance "Snapshot" device that plugs into your car and records your driving habits (acceleration rates, braking rates, distances, etc.) and can result in savings on your premiums can also be hacked. No, nobody broke the security code of the device. There isn't one. Nothing. The device was programmed using the most basic software and communication formatting with no firewalls, encryption, or any other protection. Nada. And because it communicates over standard networks anyone anywhere in the world that can break into Progressive's database can hack every vehicle in their system with this device. What could they do? Anything as inconsequential as turning on your lights up to applying your brakes or deploying the airbags. Turn off the car altogether.
Flo has declined requests for an interview.
I'm concerned about the faculty and staff at the country's community colleges. If we're going to give free tuition to anyone who wants to attend those institutions I have to assume they'll work without paychecks. Then there's the costs associated with facilities, publications, computers & software....
Are we sure the tuition is actually free? Or could it be that the cost will be the same and someone else will foot the bill?
Bill Belichick has never appeared on anyone's list of likable people. The word curmudgeon would be a compliment. But the developing story of footballs that had clearly been tampered with by the Patriots, the second case of cheating by that organization in recent history, adds something to his reputation way beyond the absence of social graces. He joins the ranks of other sports figures who would cheat to gain an advantage over the competition. And I hope he is similarly ostracized. It's a game. If you'll sacrifice ethical standards to win at a game what about those things in life that really matter?
