"It is costly wisdom that is bought by experience." - Roger Ascham

That quote up there...our MacDonald equivalent isn't nearly so elegant but gets to the same point. We talk about the stupid tax, or sometimes just the MacDonald Factor.

I think this is a very cool pic. From earlier this week it shows the U.S. destroyer USS Mitscher greeting the French replica of the frigate Hermione as it approached the east coast after a maiden crossing of the Atlantic. The original Hermione sailed here in 1780 as part of a mission to assure Gen. George Washington of French support for our war of independence.

I worked on the truck early this morning and got the cross rails bolted in place. Josh is going to come over tomorrow or Sunday to help me set the bed on those rails, a significant step on the final stretch.

I left mid-morning and drove to Tempe to meet a dear friend for coffee. I'd have driven a lot further. We talked for about 90 minutes, it felt like 15, and when I left I had a full heart.
In a world of normal people some stand out as extraordinary. Not because they have great skills or knowledge, but because they have that too rare combination of character and compassion.

It's gonna be a tough weekend. I can feel my insides tightening up as it approaches.

This afternoon I opened the box that UPS delivered yesterday and unwrapped a freshly rebuilt carb that looks brand new. I bolted it in place and hooked up the gas and vacuum lines, and tomorrow I'll hook up the choke and throttle cables.

But maybe the best part? Oscar wrapped the carb in bubble wrap. The big stuff.

BACON, bubble wrap, and Bach.
Yeah, I'll make it through the weekend.
