We've been here at Bob & Marla's in Hollister since Thursday afternoon. Today we went over to Monterey and walked Cannery Row. In Steinbeck's day it was a rough and tumble street where the fisherman unloaded their catch and the prostitutes plied their trade. When we lived here it was a mix of old cannery buildings and retail businesses, including some great restaurants. Now it's all commercial and pretty touristy, but still a beautiful setting, and the Mexican restaurant where we had lunch served some really good food.
We walked the Row, went down to the beach where Marla and Pam looked for sea glass (don't ask), and then walked down to the northern edge of Pacific Grove to watch a bunch of huge seals on the beach. The weather was perfect, and though there were lots of people there it didn't feel crowded. A perfect way to spend a beautiful day with VIF's.
Dinner was delicious. Bob did meat and corn on the cob on the grill outside, Marla made up a couple of salads and a zucchini thing, and I went back for seconds.
Tomorrow morning we'll leave just before Bob & Marla head for church. Breakfast at this cool one-off in Hollister and then the drive south to Bruce & Debbie's in Santa Ynez. More great friends, more great food, and lots of catching up to do.
Right now? Sleep! Why does spending the day outside in the sun make one so tired? At least me. So I'm going lights out and the next post will be from Santa Ynez.
