"As scarce as the truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand." - Josh Billinghs
This will be short. It's past my bedtime and we've had two long days.
We drove up yesterday, arrived at noon as planned, had lunch with the folks, and then crashed a bit until dinner in the dining room.
About halfway through the meal I noticed that mom wasn't looking good. Two hours later we were in the ER at the nearby hospital, and shortly after that learned that her blood pressure was WAY elevated and her pulse was stuck in the low 40's.
The eventually decided to admit her, but that wasn't until about 2 a.m.
We were back this morning to learn that her heart has an electrical problem that makes her pulse very irregular. That may be because of some meds she's been taking, so they've been discontinued. One is already out of her system, but the other may take weeks to disappear. If the problem persists after that point she'll be a candidate for a pacemaker.
Her pulse was up today and her blood pressure was down, but the former is still very irregular, bouncing from the 40's to the 60's from one check to the next. But the improvement is probably due to stopping that one med.
The plan is that she's discharged tomorrow morning. They wanted to keep her one more night to make sure her pulse was sufficiently stable to send her home, and we won't know if that's the case until the dr.s have seen her in the morning. Our original plan was to leave just before noon tomorrow, but if they decide to keep her we'll probably extend our stay.
So our stay has been spent making trips with dad back and forth to the hospital. and sitting with mom waiting for relief and a diagnosis. Not what we'd planned, but what the Person in charge had planned, and he does all things well!
If we'd known ahead of time that mom would have medical issues and that my younger brother & his wife would be out of town we'd have planned exactly this - to arrive hours before the problem rose to the surface and stay until she'd been discharged to the care of her cardiologist. So we are NOT complaining and are, in fact, very grateful for the way this has worked out.
We are, however, also pretty tired. And if she's discharged tomorrow morning we've got a nearly 6-hour drive home.
So, goodnight!
