This would be the tuba of shofars.
On the not-so-good side, our neighbor Tim was at the door at 8:30 this morning. For reasons I don't understand he built his woodshed in a location only accessible from our property. Because I park our teardrop where I do it has to be moved whenever he gets a load of fire wood. Like he had scheduled for this afternoon. So about 10 a.m. I backed the Kia up there and hooked the teardrop to it. Except I forgot to fold the tongue's wheel up before I drove off with it. The wheel was cranked up all the way but not rotated to parallel with the tongue.
Twenty yards down the path that wheel hit a high spot.
It's never a good thing to look out the side window and see your trailer gaining on you.
The satellite dish pole stopped the trailer, and after some grunting I got it back on the hitch and hauled out of the way. Dish is coming tomorrow to re-align the dish so I can watch TV again.
Grrrrr.
I laid on my back on the gravel to install Sally's new gas tank and leaf springs, but the tie rod ends I suspected she needs are a different matter. The front end is closer to the ground and tie rod ends can be a wrestling match that at least equals the leaf springs. I have a "pickle fork," the tool used to break them loose, but it requires swinging a 2 lb. sledge in what would be very tight spaces. This is a job better done by someone with a lift.
So this afternoon I drove it over to a local mechanic recommended by Marta, our goat mentor, who ran it up on his lift for an inspection.
The good news: the tie rod ends are fine.
The bad news: everything else suspension or steering related is shot. Pitman arm, lower A-arm bushings.....
He's going to call me with an estimate for parts and labor, but I don't expect this to be cheap. Alas, it's necessary. I can move the steering wheel several inches to the right and left without any change in the position of the front wheels. And more serious, that means the front wheels can move significantly from side to side without any movement in the steering wheel, so the car wanders from side to side as I drive up the twists and turns to our place.
Heavy sigh.
There's something seriously fishy about the latest accusations that the President's SIL, Jared Kushner, had inappropriate contacts with the Russians before the election.
As I understand it, that tidbit came from an intercepted Russian communication. Thing is, that communication was over a line that the Russians know is not secure, and is monitored by U.S. intelligence.
Why would they say something like that when we knew we were listening?
Does the term "misinformation" sound like it might fit here??
It's coming up on 7 p.m. I sometimes work to stay awake until 8:30 before going to bed. There's no way I'm making it that far tonight. Pam will call in a few minutes and then I'm giving up.
Tomorrow will be better. And just in case it's not, I'm going to write my blog post in the morning. I've got something stuck in my craw, but I'm just too pooped to post it.
