Khakis and a button down, if you were wondering.
Then spent most of the afternoon asleep in my chair and still went to bed by 9 p.m. I'm afraid that cold is making an encore appearance, complete with light-headedness that I attribute to sinus issues.
NBC bought the rights to the French Open, now being played at Rolland Garros. I'm not sure what they paid or why, because no matches are televised this week (the second of two) except on the Tennis Channel, which we don't get.
Today was agriculture day. I spent it on things that grow and will (hopefully) provide us with fruit and vegetables. I trimmed the grass around the 9 fruit trees and watered them, weeded and watered around the Marion berries and blueberries, and prepped the area where Pam will plant the tomato plants tomorrow. In between I did goat and chicken chores and went for my run. The weather for all of that was perfect - sunny and in the upper 70's. It was a good day.
I started at the coffee shop. I've been asked to speak at Grace Adventures in Michigan the first Sunday in August. Grace Adventures started as a very modest summer camp (Grace Youth Camp) serving a group of churches in west Michigan, but under the leadership of Steve Prudhomme has grown into a very developed ministry to kids and families. It's impressive. Because it's in a resort area near Lake Michigan they host a "chapel service" during the tourist season that will draw nearly 1,000 people for a Sunday morning service. I used to speak there one Sunday each summer when we lived in MI and was asked a few months ago if I'd consider coming back for a Sunday service. Yes!
Their theme for this summer is drawn from the first 6 chapters of the Book of Daniel and focuses on God's work in the world, seen and unseen. So I spent the time at the coffee shop going through those chapters, already familiar to this preacher who's used them for more than one series, thinking about what I might do in a 30 minute message to a very diverse group of vacationers there for a one-off service.
Which is what leads me to these questions. You can weigh in via a comment, send me an email, or just answer it in your head and leave it there.
- What is/are the most common behavioral sin(s) committed by Christians?
- What is/are the most common mental sin(s) committed by Christians?
I think the first would include foul language, inappropriate "entertainment," and gluttony.
The second might be excessive materialism (is there any other kind?), selfishness, and lust.
Daniel 1:8, "Daniel determined in his heart that he would not...."
What should we determine not to do?
