"Don't cling to a mistake just because you spent a lot of time making it." - anon
We attend University Fellowship Church (UFC) in Eugene. We meet at South Eugene High School and the church has no plans to build. I like that! Good stewardship means spending money on ministry not facilities.
The H.S. team name is the Axemen, a name that dates back to the school's origins in the 50's when the lumber industry was central to this part of Oregon and schools only had boys' teams. No girls involved in inter-school sports. Once girls' sports were added they were called the Axewomen.
They've just started a series of meetings to consider renaming the teams. It seems those names no longer work in PC Oregon. They're sexist. Axepersons is too awkward, and having Axemen and Axewomen is too binary. What about the students who don't identify with either sex??!
It may be winter but it's always Silly Season in Oregon.
This afternoon I sent the manuscript off to the two ladies who have agreed to serve as my editors, checking it for grammar and style issues. I say "serve" because a) that strikes me as a a most burdensome job, and b) they're not getting paid to do it.
I don't understand.
But they are both very good at that role and will insure my manuscript is as close to perfect (per The Christian Writer's Manual of Style) as it can be.
I also downloaded MS Word for Mac. That turned out to be a hassle, but I *think* it worked. I haven't tried to open it yet.
I'm in the PNW Boer Goats group on Facebook. I saw a message there this afternoon asking if anyone was heading from OR to WA soon. Uhm....OR and WA are big places; shouldn't you be a bit more specific? And "soon"???
I replied, asked those questions, and had a conversation with Ann, the poster.
Long story short, she's buying two yeaerling does from Marta, our goat guru and friend who lives 15 minutes from us. Ann lives two minutes east of I-5 right across from Boeing Field. We'll drive right by her place on our way to dad's memorial service next month.
I'm going to rent a 4'x8' enclosed U-Haul trailer for $38, load it with straw and two yearling does. I'll drop them off at Ann's, wash out the trailer, and then drop the trailer off in Ballard on my way north.
Ann will may me $100 which will cover the trailer, a tank of gas, with enough left over to buy Pam a Diet Coke.
Helps us with the expenses and does a favor for Marta (seller) and Ann (buyer).
Win win win.
What are the chances someone in south Seattle would be buying goats from a friend 15 minutes away from us at the same time we're headed back to Seattle for dad's service?
Almost like Somebody planned it.
I like it!
We're going to the opera tomorrow afternoon! Gonna be interesting and fun.
Some of the music from The Barber of Seville was used in a famous Bugs Bunny cartoon spoof so most people know the music even if they don't know it was originally from the opera.
We're in the cheap seats, three rows back and out on the left side. Most opera productions now include supra- (vs. sub-) titles, the lyrics projected in English on a wide screen above the stage.
Neck brace?
