I sent this story to you back on 2010, when it was fresh off the press of occurring...

We spent a beautiful Saturday morning and afternoon at Norm & EunaJean's with our senior high youth group doing lawn and garden work. The day was warmer than usual, with temperatures that September high enough to cause sweat and a little chill. When our work was complete, Norm came down to inspect and said that the work we did was indistinguishable from what he felt his own would be. We all took that as a high compliment, as we knew that Norm was a man with high standards, high expectations, and a deep desire to present the best for his Bride. As he and I walked back to the vehicles, my oldest son stepped up next to Norm, because we both saw him waver in the heat and fatigue of the day. Norm reached out to my son for support and walked the rest of the way up to the vehicles. He paused long enough for a photograph with our senior high group before returning to his house to rest. As he and I walked to his front door, he asked about the identity of the young man who walked with him as he traversed his yard. "That was my son; my oldest," I told him. "He is a fine young man," Norm replied, "He was taught well." "I had a good mentor," I replied, "A man who taught me well, and from whom I learned much." "He taught you well," Norm replied. "That man was your son," I said. "So, in a roundabout way, my son has benefitted from your teaching, because YOUR son taught me how to teach MY son."

He had a slight tear in his eye. He never lost his composure. He simply smiled and said, "The Lord is good. His promises endure, always."

I am saddened by the loss you all must be feeling, and I rejoice that it is THIS day that your father was called home. God IS good... and His promises DO endure... Always and All ways.
