Facebook reminded me that today is Pam's birthday and that I should give her a b'day greeting.
If they really wanted to be helpful they would have reminded me when I was in town yesterday when I could have purchased a card.
Late yesterday morning I got word from Amazon that the other book had passed technical review and was ready for me to order a proof copy. I immediately did so and paid the extra to have it shipped by the fastest method available. This morning I got an email that the book is on it's way and should be delivered tomorrow.
Think about that! They went from a digital file of a book, including a glossy 4-color cover, to a printed copy of that book in less than 12 hours and will have it at my door in 48 hours. That's from South Carolina!
POD (Print on Demand)
This is a truly amazing world we live in.
As things occur to me I go online to check out details about Eastport, NY (Long Island).
We bank at Wells Fargo. Do they have those on Long Island? (yes).
What about a laundry mat? I don't have a month's worth of underwear. (again, yes)
McDonald's if I want a quick and easy? (every three blocks)
Starbuck's (yes) or Dutch Bro.s? (fugettaboutit)
There are one-off restaurants, bagel shops, and delis everywhere.
My favorite Winter Olympics sport is now Women's Half-Pipe. They are CRAZY, and crazy good.
Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot less nationalism this time around, at least from the U.S.?
Late breaking!!
- I put the carb back in Sally and she runs. (happy, happy!) The float was set WAY too high and is now at spec. That means the idle mixture, the idle speed, and the choke routine all need to be reset for the corrected float level. I'll have to take it for a road test to do that and I didn't have time or energy this afternoon, so it will go on tomorrow's agenda.
- The proof copy of Understanding Your Bible came via UPS shortly after lunch. I discovered a few minor problems, corrected them, and uploaded a new PDF to Amazon. It now goes back (again) to technical review and I should hear within 24 if they've approved this revision. If they do I don't think I'll order another proof copy; the online review tools should do the job now that I've seen it and now what to look for. (I really like the cover, probably more than other people will. That's because the Bible on the front is a picture of one that was given to me and has special meaning thanks to its original owner.)
The temp today in Eastport was 28 F and it's going to snow Saturday night. This is not good.
What is good: I now have sermon and S.S. prep for the first two of four weeks done, including slides. I hope to get the other two done before the week's done.
We have small group tonight. Our gatherings start with a simple pot-luck and tonight we're going to have pizza brought in and salads and chips members are bringing. So yeah, I'm technically taking Pam out for dinner on her birthday.
