"Don't pray when it rains if you don't pray when the sun shines." - Satchel Paige

Today was not a good day. I came SO close to having a very good day but at the last minute it went south.

I've been working for the better part of two days getting the new fan installed in our bathroom. The first big challenge was cutting precisely matching 13" holes in the outside and the inside walls. This fan has two halves. The half with the vent that installs on the outside has to line up exactly with the half that installs from the inside and holds the fan itself. The holes have to be right up against a framing 2x4 so they can attach to it.
I spent at least two hours yesterday measuring it from both sides over and over and over again before I cut my holes.
Spot on.

Today I installed those two halves through the holes. Because this fan was designed for a house I had to make all kinds of adjustments so it would work with MoHo. The walls are thinner (no drywall and no exterior sheeting) so I had to custom cut the halve down to size. Doing that meant the wiring channels didn't work so they had to be recut.
In other words, just getting the fan installed in the wall was a major project. But by noon I had it done and started on the wiring after lunch.

That was supposed to be the easy part. Simple connections tapping into the GFI box right below the fan meant adding in a box for an on/off switch, half a dozen basic wiring connections, and I'm done.

Except it will not work. Everything with the GFI works fine until I flip the switch for the fan and that trips the GFI. Every time. I can not find a reason for that FAIL, and I spent about 90 minutes trying to figure it out. Hooked the fan's black up to the "Line" terminal on the GFI and did white/white with the ground. What else is there???
So I called James.
He's a local electrician, a really nice young guy that helped me hook up the stub panel when I did the rehab on Fred.
He's coming Tuesday morning, his first open slot, to figure out what's wrong.

I was SO close.

I had an online conversation with Joe last night. He's my former student who now lives in Recife, Brazil and is organizing my trip there next month. The tickets are now purchased! I leave from Portland at 2 p.m. on Tuesday the 12th and get to Recife at 4:20 p.m. the next day (whew!) after going through Chicago and Sao Paulo. I leave Recife on Monday the 25th and get back into Portland at noon on Tuesday, coming back through Dallas/FtWorth. Four legs each way.
This is gonna happen.

I'm curious about Facebook's algorithm for deciding what constitutes "most important." I always opt for "most recent" but FB seems to default to "Most important" when I open it or refresh the page. Sometimes the things that show up at the top are from people I never communicate with or react to so what drove FB's weighting?

I'm really tired. I was up and down that ladder too many times and got stressed out about the wiring issues. Didn't get to the gym and feel like I did a 2-hour workout. Tomorrow's to-do list includes stacking firewood, working on Sally, and mucking the barn and coop.
And the gym.

Good night.
