"It's discouraging to think how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit." - Noel Coward

I've had better.

I took Sally up to the mechanic this morning and got a call about noon. The carb is cracked and about ready to lose pieces down the throat. That would be catastrophic. "Go find yourself another carb"
The problem is that particular carb (an Autolite 1100) hasn't been made for decades and is only available used on eBay. That's a big risk because you don't know if what you're getting is any better than what you've got.
Mike's Carbs is a business in Chehalis, WA, about halfway between Portland and Seattle that is THE place to go for carbs and carb parts for vintage cars, so I called them. Nope, they don't have an Autolite 1100 either, but they sell a universal single barrel that she says will fit on Sally's intake manifold. "There's a video on our site that shows how to make the conversion."
It is pricey!
I went ahead and ordered one figuring that in the long run it may be cheaper than buying an unknown off eBay. The word "universal" too often means "will fit but not well" but my options are really limited and Mike's has a very good rep. Ugh.
The mechanic said to get a new radiator, too, because this one is leaking. Again, pricey. So I'm going to try a radiator repair shop in Eugene that gets good reviews and see if they can repair it. I looked and the leak is at a seam in the top tank so it shouldn't be a difficult or expensive fix.

I worked in the berry patch after lunch. I needed the dirt therapy. The Marion berries should give us another good crop that I'll bake into pies and the rhubarb plants are coming back from the damage done by the snails. The blueberry plants are recovering too, but given how badly they suffered last year (I didn't water them enough) it will be at least another year before we get many berries. Which is too bad 'cause I make a mean blueberry pie.

I saw an ad during our local news program for the Freemasons. The bad news: they are as they always have been - a false religion that tells you good works earns you eternal favor with God. The good news: their numbers are declining rapidly in most places, which is why they're advertising on TV.

A week from now, after a day and a half of flights, I'll be in Recife, Brazil. This morning I found a site with a bunch of common phrases in Brazilian Portuguese that I'll print off and put on flash cards.
I looked up the weather and for the next ten days temps are in the mid-80's with thunderstorms Every Day. The humidity today was 91%.
It's winter now in Brazil.

In addition to whatever we're contributing to our weekly potluck we typically take a couple of dozen eggs to our small group for those who are interested in buying them. Last night I put a paper grocery bag with a tossed salad, some cookies, and two dozen eggs on the seat behind me.
Because of what we eventually saw was a rear-end accident further up the Beltline I had to hit the brakes in order to avoid hitting the car in front of me. That grocery bag flew off the seat and onto the floor. Only one of the eggs broke but it did so off the rubber mat.
Today I learned how difficult it is to clean a broken egg off the carpet of a Kia Sorento.
