That's a Mercedes. Owned by a crazy person.
Our corner of Baker Rd. is apparently a bad place to be a rooster. Spike died of undetermined causes and Cogburn just disappeared. Unless there was a special rapture for roosters he met a violent death. If word gets out we're going to have trouble finding #3.
The truck has been holding steady at $6k with just over a day left as I type this (noon Monday). This engine/transmission/rear end combo is great for pulling a trailer or carrying a camper but comes in at 10-12 mpg. According to the seller's answer to my question, "a little better with a light foot."
Anybody want to prophecy about fuel prices for the next few years? It's a cool truck and would serve us well, but it could also break the bank if gas prices continue to go up.
I spent three hours getting a new distributor in Sally. It did NOT go well.
Not only did it not solve the problem that led me to tackle this PITA task I've now also got a timing issue. But at 5 p.m. I'd used up my energy for working on a 52-year old car.
I've posted a question on the vintage Mustang forum. I'm afraid I'm going to be told I have to take the distributor out and re-install it because I got the gear off by one tooth.
I'm not sure I have it in me to do that.
Cogburn never showed up. I have to assume he went the way of all flesh through one means or another.
Emily (Marta's daughter) is going to bring us his replacement, one of the dozen she has that are 3.5 months old. She's in the process of doing with chickens what her mom has done with goats - use careful breeding to put together a remarkable flock of purebred exotics.
The media is all in a dither over today's SCOTUS decision that allows a Denver baker to refuse to make a cake for a same sex wedding. And lots of Christians are shouting "Praise the Lord" because their religious liberties have been vindicated.
They're both wrong.
The 7-2 decision (a surprising margin) ruled that because the baker's refusal came before curdrent Colorado law prohibiting discrimination based on sexual oientation, and because Colorado courts had allowed pro-LGBT merchants to refuse business that, for example, involved cakes with anti-gay messages the state could not fairly act against the baker in this situation.
There are cases now before SCOTUS that are more on point regarding the issue so we'll learn soon if merchants can refuse business based on religious liberty.
At 7 p.m. and 18 hours left in the auction I've just entered a bid. We've agreed on a ceiling that, with the site's percentage included, we think is a good deal on the truck and affordable. IF we win the auction we'll sell the Kia for what little it will bring. Stay tuned.
It's been a stressful day. I have a 10-day old baby goat sleeping in my lap as I type this. I want to get up for a cup of coffee and a couple of cookies but I don't want to wake up Eclair. Among other things waking him up means keeping him out of trouble. Trust me, an energetic kid can get into all sorts of trouble. When he's sleeping that's not a problem.
Decisions, decisions.
