"Laziness may appear attractive but work gives satisfaction." - Ann Frank
Ann Frank wouldn't have been particularly happy with me today. It got hot after lunch and I got lazy, at least in terms of getting any chores done.
This morning I fed the animals, stacked some wood, went for a 4-mile run (a negative split coming uphill to home), and showered my sweaty body.
This afternoon I mostly sat in my chair and designed what I think I'm going to build as a replacement for the teardrop you see over on the sidebar to the right. We'll use it for our camping trip next month but this will be its last trip. The de-lamination of the plywood is too serious and almost impossible to repair/replace given the way the thing is constructed. So....
I've talked Pam into going back to tent camping IF she can sleep on a cot instead of on the ground. I've found a tent with nearly vertical walls that's big enough to allow for that. We have all the other gear from camping with the teardrop so it's just a case of getting the tent and the cot. And transporting it.
We use the teardrop now for transporting the gear. The galley holds all the cooking equipment and the cabin holds the sleeping stuff. The plan is to take the top off the 4'x8' trailer frame and build a simple storage unit that will hold everything. That has the advantage of keeping the back of the Blazer uncluttered and not piled high with all the camping equipment. We maybe keep the cooler in there but nothing else.
So I sketched out what I think will work well and be reliably waterproof. I'll make the box out of T1-11, which is house siding that comes in 4x8 sheets. I'll prime and paint it, which holds up on the side of a house so it should work for this application. All of the corners will get wrapped with aluminum angle iron sealed with latex caulk. The sides come up 18" and then angle inward to a flat top that's 12" wide front to back. That angled surface will have four large doors that open to the storage inside. I'll probably make separate compartments to keep things sorted and organized.
I think I'm going to make a 1/12th mock-up out of cardboard to see if the proportions seem right. Aesthetics matter, too.
Tomorrow is the service where I'm leading the hymn singing worship portion of the service. We have a run-through at 8:30 and I'm hoping there aren't any major problems exposed then. These are hymns I've sung all my life so if I keep my wits about me it should go OK. And I have reasonable confidence in the keyboard player.
We just finished dinner and we're watching the Great British Baking Show. It motivates me. Maybe this winter when turning on the oven doesn't place us in mortal danger I'll try some new dessert recipes.

You should use that new welder of yours and weld up some nice angle iron for the corners. Still caulk it, but where the angle irons join will be more water tight and it'll be even more sturdy. 14 gauge should be fine but scott would know better.
A cot may be easier to get out of than from being on an air mattress, but I got myself a nice twin sized air mattress from Big 5. It is as deep as a regular twin mattress when inflated. It is flocked on one side (but I put on a twin fitted flannel sheet to keep my back from feeling cold. I have a battery powered air pump to inflate it. I sleep great on it. I would use a cot also though, if I could put an air mattress on it.
