"To different minds the same world is a hell and a heaven." - J.B. Priestley
Early Tuesday morning:
Mom made rhubarb pie when I was a kid and I liked it so I got two rhubarb plants a couple of years ago. They say you shouldn't harvest the first year so this will be the first year I can make my own rhubarb pie. I went looking online this morning for a recipe and found several, all pretty much the same. One of them listed "Nutritional Information."
If you're eating pie, especially a pie that calls for 2 cups of sugar, you're pretty much ignoring nutritional guidelines.
It's supposed to be Track Tuesday but yesterday's two-a-day may turn this into a none-today. It's only supposed to hit the high 80's today so I've got time before I have to decide if I want to head down to the H.S. I need to get chicken feed so I'll be out and about anyway. Ugh.
I posted this on Facebook but it's too good not to put here, too. I saw it in the comment section on a car site listing for a Factory Five Cobra. I like what Pandora - in a fit of PC-Speak - calls "Traditional Gospel" and this is a wonderful example that makes me grin.

Mid-morning
I came in from some chores for a mid-morning snack (cold cereal), sat down to watch a couple of episodes of Chasing Classic Cars and fell asleep in the middle of an auction for a Ferrari that didn't meet reserve at $22 million.
While I was stacking wood I had a Baker Rd. moment. The rooster was crowing non-stop, Cannoli and Donut were jabbing at Sundae's udder for their mid-morning snack, and over under the fruit trees Cat One (or was it Cat Two?) was playing with a mouse.
An hour later he was still playing with his food. He'd bat it around a bit, let it scamper a few feet away, and then go pounce on it for more swatting.
Our rooster's name is Charm. Why? Because early this spring Cogburn died, probably from old age. He was a fine lookin' rooster that I found one morning dead on the coop floor. He was replaced with Spike, an even handsomer bird. Alas, he was lost to a predator of some sort who carried him off leaving only a pile of feathers behind. So this is the third rooster this year. Hence, Charm.
Noon
Mucking out a barn is NOT something that should be done mid-day, at least not in July. Uff-dah.
Josh and Aubri live on a very short cul de sac with a sizable island in the center of the circular end. Yesterday's storm with very high winds blew down the large tree that grew in the center of that island.
Yeah, that's Josh not Caedon standing there. Big tree.
Evening
We drove to Springfield this afternoon so I could get some cookie cutters. (More on that in an upcoming post.) There was an accident on the Beltline so what should have been a 30-minute drive there took over an hour in 90+ degree heat. I turned off the AC so the Blazer wouldn't overheat in the mostly-stop-and-very-little-go traffic. It took about 15 minutes to locate and choose the cutters and then the 30 minute drive home, so the whole trip seemed like a very bad use of time.
But hey, I now have a good excuse for why I didn't get a workout in today.
Oregon is a deep blue state inclined to the progressive end of the liberal spectrum. Environmental concerns are very high on the agenda of state officials so I knew to expect that a county permit would be required. When Midgley's did the installation they left behind a packet with a manual, some goodies like a box of fire starters, and a pamphlet from Lane County. In contrast to the Lopi Stoves manual the county said I should NOT load up the firebox with wood before going to be for the night. They said in the middle of the night when the fire begins to burn down the heat in the firebox will drop which will lead to an incomplete burn of the wood that remains and an increase in the particulates released into the atmosphere.
I must be missing something, because that seems like something that would happen whenever a fire burns down, regardless of the time of day. If I light a fire in the morning and let it go out as the daytime temps rise the same dynamic happens. So I guess the only way for me to be a good Oregon citizen is to light a fire in October and keep it going until early May.
No, wait. I can never let it go out. I have to keep a hot fire going forever.
But with the temp outside still at 88 I don't have to worry about that yet. And, it's dinnertime!
