"Good questions outrank easy answers." - Paul Samuelson

What kind of Baptist preacher has to read John 3:16 from his Bible???

I caught the last 15 minutes of Sen. McCain's AZ memorial service. I saw the end of V.P. Joe Biden's eulogy, a song by a chorale group from Brophy (a Catholic H.S. in Phoenix), some comments by the head of another Catholic H.S. there, and closing comments by the aforementioned Baptist pastor.

When I had to do my first funeral as a pastor I called my mother who played the organ at about 1,001 funerals and knew the setting and its demands very well. The service I was doing was for a relative of someone who attended the church I was pastoring at the time, not someone I knew personally. I remember one of the pieces of advice she gave me in that phone call. "Don't preach him into heaven."
Note: I have NO idea of Sen. McCain's spiritual condition. None.

I trimmed Dolly's hooves this morning. I planned to do Sundae's, too, but after the first battle I was sweaty and exhausted mentally and physically. It's amazing how strong a 140 pound goat is. What a wrestling match!
Part of the problem is that I don't have a proper stand which would restrain the goat much better than my halter tied to a barn post.

I'll do Sundae's tomorrow and if things go enough better I'll do Stella, too.
I've seen plans online for building a stand out of wood so maybe I'll give that a go.

Our "meeting" last night went well. Just Pam and me and two other couples and their kids. The new small group is a go and will meet formally for the first time on Sept. 17. Both couples are very nice and sharp. They're talking to others about joining us so we'll probably have five or six couples and kids. (They're all parents of young children.) I'm looking forward to getting to know them better and to the discussions we'll have.

It's been a long day with goat wrestling, working on the trailer, a run into town for project supplies, and our weekly trip to the local dive for good cheap pizza, our weekly date.
I should have something profound to write about but I don't. What I do have is a cup of coffee and cookies and brownies waiting.
It's gonna be another early night.

Wood? Your going to make it out of wood?

What the heck do you have that welder for? Go get some scrap steel and McGyver that thing together. 1/4" angle iron is the perfect material to learn on.

I Chronicles 26:18 "At Parbar westward, four at the causeway, and two at Parbar." I know of no version that has ever expressed it better!
Seriously, though ...
I'd suggest I Samuel 10:22, when they were looking for Saul to officially pronounce him king; "Behold, he hath hid himself among the stuff."
Also, Luke 20:40 after the Lord answered the Sadducees; "And after that they durst not ask Him any question at all."
