"A year from now you're gonna weigh more or less than what you do right now." - Phil McGraw
You'll hear a lot of mention of the virgin birth in the next week and probably sing about it a time or two. Did you know that Roman Catholic doctrine is different than Protestant doctrine on that issue?
R.C. dogma (that's the term for the official doctrine of a group or movement) understands the word virgin to mean an intact hymen. Thus, their belief in the "perpetual virginity of Mary" means that not only did she not have any other children, but that Jesus did not pass through the birth canal. He was delivered through a miraculous C-section.
In fact, realize it or not you do NOT believe in a virgin birth. They do, but you believe in a virgin conception.
There! I've just messed with your caroling for the rest of the season.
You're welcome.
On a related note, a priest in metro Detroit is in hot water because at the funeral of a H.S. student who committed suicide he said that the boy's manner of death might keep him out of heaven. The parents complained to the bishop who reprimanded the priest for his insensitivity.
If I were that priest I'd be giving serious thought to my continued employment with the R.C. Church. The list of mortal sins (those which cannot be forgiven in this life or the life to come) is suicide. So the priest was saying no more nor less than what the church has, for centuries, taught. That's why those who commit suicide are traditionally not allowed to be buried in a Catholic cemetery which is "hallowed ground." So the priest got reprimanded for orthodoxy per church dogma.
It would seem the R.C. Church either needs to change its dogma or practice what it preaches and back up those who do.
Isn't this just a delightful way to start a blog post.
But wait! There's more!
I butchered Donut this morning. It's been long enough that this one took me longer than last time. And I waited too long; she had too much fat beneath her skin. Pam weighed the wrapped meat and it came out to 26.4 pounds. We both expected more. That's about 35% of live weight (assuming she was about 80 lbs.) which is pretty close to what's expected. So I guess it's OK.
So now we're down to three does: Stella who will be bred for the second time in late January, Dolly who will be bred for the first time next weekend and Frenchie who is Stella's daughter and won't be ready to breed for about a year. I wish I had a third doe of breeding age and might pick one up if the price is right.
Pam had the TV on while she was cleaning up and wrapping the goat meat for the freezer. I was on a dump run with the household trash and...never mind...and while I was gone the TV signal disappeared. So I called DishTV and spent 42 minutes before he decided we need a tech to come out. I hit the reset button 46 times (at least), unplugged and replugged 23 times, poked all kinds of buttons on the remote, and got a "Complete Signal Loss" 125 times.
The tech will come between 8 and 10 Monday morning. Until then we can watch anything we've recorded so we'll watch some PBS programs tonight and when those run out we've got about 30 hours of HGTV.
Ugh.
Several of the websites I go to frequently aren't working. Some of them make my MacBook lock up. Is it the sites? Could be, because CBS, for example, has just done a major redesign. Maybe that new site doesn't play well with Chrome. Same thing with NBCNews.com - redesign and lockups.
But the WeatherUnderground site isn't working either and it hasn't changed anything that I can tell.
Did Chrome push a new version on me? It doesn't cause a lock up but it also won't load most of the page.
I am SO sleepy We just watched the first hour of "Silent Witness" while we ate dinner. Pam's doing the dishes (we don't have a dishwasher) and the plan is to watch the second half after she's done. It's only 6 p.m. but I seriously don't think I can stay awake.
