"If you don't like change you're going to like irrelevance even less." - Gen. Eric Shinseki
Started by washing the Blazer. Who thought it was a good idea to get a black vehicle when you live on a dirt road and have a gravel driveway?
Hung a fake bamboo roll-up shade for the front porch which faces west. They make them out of PVC now. The sun blasts into the living room and heats it up quickly. I'm hoping that this shade hanging from the outside of the porch cover will help with that.
It was made in China and the method for holding it in the roll-up position is a joke. I'll have to come up with something.
Then I pulled Sally out of the garage so I can start prepping the rest of the back end for paint. Uhm...in the sunlight the trunk lid looks worse than I thought. I'll do a LOT more sanding, with additional layers of paint as necessary, in hopes of improving the results. If it doesn't get any better it's still A) a ton better than it was, and B) worthwhile based on the cost/benefit ratio. But I'm hoping I can improve it significantly.
They said on the news today that if Oregon stopped producing any and all pot today it would take six years to smoke and/or eat (via "edibles") all the supply currently on hand. Sellers are looking for a return on their investment and the easiest way when Oregon is buried in it is to export it to states where it isn't legal.
Doesn't that put the state of OR in a pretty sketchy role? They legalized pot for smoking and edibles on the promise that it would generate a ton of income through taxation. Now the state is in a position of at least complicity in illegal exporting the drug.
Grrr. I have 6" sanding discs with an adhesive back. I have a 7" wheel with a hook and loop surface.
WHAT???? We just got a postcard from our electric utility that because of maintenance work on the substation that serves our area we will have no electric from 11 p.m. until 7 a.m. on three days over the next two weeks.
"The overnight times were set to minimize impacts to consumers."
Since when is 7 a.m. "overnight"??? My day is half done by then.
Because we're on a well, when we don't have electric we also don't have water.
I normally cook my b'fast between 5 and 6 a.m. and do chores (incl. water) right after that. Then shave and shower to be out the door by 7 a.m.
But wait! There's more!
One of the outages starts Saturday night and runs through to 7 a.m. Sunday morning. This is not good. I leave the house for my class at 7:30.
Pam's garden is doing well. Only radishes on the plate so far but the rest will show up soon. She's learning more each year and this time around has a schedule for replanting some of the veggies after harvest so we'll have fresh all summer long.
We live in Lane County and once a year they do a count of the homeless. They count those living on the streets, in shelters, and short-term housing. The results of the count done a couple of months ago has been released and the total is up 32% from one year ago. Grand total - 2,165 homeless people.
You can guess what's happened next. County and Eugene leaders are decrying our failure at dealing with the problem. We need to spend a LOT more money to provide services for them, including shelters, food, and opportunities for them to move out of that category.
Word has already reached Minnesota and the homeless from the Twin Cities have started their migration to Oregon where we'll take care of them.
Care to guess what next year's numbers will look like?
Remember the scarecrow from Wizzard of Oz? His offspring are in charge in Lane Co.
One local official proposed an ordinance to penalize any driver who gave money to a panhandler who approaches his/her car at a stoplight. It's disruptive to the flow of traffic and dangerous for everyone involved.
The proposal didn't get past square one.
Cruelty.
Good grief.
