"Never make fun of someone who speaks broken English. It means they know another language." - H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Up and working at 3:30. I have ambitious plans for the day. (It's 4 a.m. now)

Joe booked my flights to Recife and the trip starts out of Portland (PDX) on Wednesday evening, Aug. 7. That's a 2 hour drive away. So I just used miles on our Alaska credit card to book a flight from Eugene to PDX early that afternoon for $5.60 plus $30 for my bag. Never mind the gas money, the traffic on the return drive for Pam would be miserable.
I'd do the same for a flight from PDX to Eugene when I get back on the 20th, but Alaska only has three flights into Eugene and the last one would mean sitting in Portland for three hours. Pam's OK driving up to get me, I'll do the drive home, and get here before my flight would have left.

I also ordered all the parts I need to complete Sally's new clothes. I hate spending that much money but by combining everything into one order I reached the threshold for free shipping so breaking it up over multiple orders would have cost me significantly more. In about a week I'll get an upper and lower front valance, a front bumper, bumper mounting bolts, new chrome guards for the front and rear bumper, the Mustang logo and script for each front fender, a gasket for the gas filler tube, and some misc. specialty hardware not available at my local Ace Hardware. Just over $350, which, to be fair, is a testament to how reasonably you can restore an old Mustang. I paid almost that much just for the front and rear bumpers when I was restoring the truck.

So an hour into my day I've already checked two tasks off my to-do list. Next up, out to the kitchen to fix my breakfast, which will include BACON!! I'll be back.

7:45 and I'm at work.
This morning the backup camera I installed 2 weeks ago quit working. Grrrrr. For the last few days it had been flickering with the vibration of driving and now...nada. I'll go through all the connections and maybe try wiring it directly to the battery to make sure there are no circuit issues, but this may be another installment of the stupid tax, assessed to those who buy the cheap item from China.
For now I've got to put that irritation out of my head and focus on Brazil prep. I'm here alone and will be for another hour so I'll crank up the tunes, get myself a cup of coffee from the kitchenette's coffee maker, and hunker down with Keynote.

10:15 and I just exported the 116 slides of my Keynote presentation for the NT Survey course into a PowerPoint presentation and sent it off to Joe for translation into Portuguese.
AMEN!
Now to start work on the handouts.

What if you wanted to do some RV travel, didn't want to spend the $$$$ for even a decent used RV, and were modestly handy so you could do your own conversion?
Go to eBay and search for busses. Note especially the selection of shuttle busses like rental car companies and hotels use from the airport (random example here). Some of them are diesel, meaning a very long life and good MPG.

Saw this on Facebook earlier. "Bogus" is a 2-syllable word, which is the same number of brain cells required to see how flawed this is.
Let's suppose that, rather than the simplistic picture imagined here, the billionaire worked his butt off with skill and focus and paid for his cookies, the worker did the same, and the immigrant broke into the room despite a "Private, do not enter" sign on the door.
Even that assumes the cookies are good for them. Truth be told, the billionaire has coronary heart disease, diabetes, and rotten teeth. The worker is fit, has a happy home, and neither needs nor wants more cookies. He rejects the myth that more cookies brings more joy.
No, I didn't point out that alternative interpretation to this person. Don't need that grief. Besides, I already had my cinnamon roll so I don't want any cookies.

The day is all but over. We went in to Carl's Jr. instead of our usual pizza trip because I needed to stop at the feed store for hay and grain. Before that I got out the string trimmer and cleaned up around the fruit trees and the goat pen. I also sanded panels so that I can paint first thing tomorrow morning before the wind kicks up.
So yes, I got a lot done today. If I can stay awake another 60 minutes I'll make it to my "you're not an old man" point.
