The one on the right illustrates our evening routine which included a game of cribbage.
It rained through the night so rather than fix b'fast in the wet and cold we drove into Coos Bay and found a cool bagel shop that makes a great egg & bacon & cheese bagel sandwich. The forecast called for more rain through the weekend so we went back to the site and packed everything up. We couldn't see the sense in staying there through Sunday just because that was our plan. So instead of one long day's drive to the north Bay area we've divided it up into two easy days. We're spending the night in a motel in Grants Pass, OR, about 3 hours of driving, and tomorrow we'll go on to Vallejo, CA or thereabouts, another 6 hours. That will leave a one-hour drive into SFO for Pam's flight Monday morning. Then I'll do the remaining 12 hour drive home.
My cousin Janet lives here in Grants Pass and we met for dinner. I haven't seen Janet since I was too young to remember but mom gave me her phone number and she readily agreed to meet us at Denny's. I enjoyed connecting with family and hearing stories of life's pathways.
Tomorrow as I drive (and Pam sleeps) I'm going to listen to the other book on CD I checked out. "The Perfect Mile" by Neal Bascomb is about the push by three different runners to break through the 4-minute mile barrier. It's supposed to be very good, which should help keep me going through the boring central CA valley. And it's long enough it will last for much of the push home after SFO.
Steve's preaching for me tomorrow. I like that. He's almost as good looking as I am.
