This little piggy went to market.
I'm at that in-between stage where my mind is bored but my body isn't ready. The fact that we have afternoon temps hitting 117 helps keep me in line. But tomorrow....
I debated earlier this summer about attending auto week in Monterey, CA next week. The Concours de Elegance in Pebble Beach is the best known of the events, but that same week several of the big car auction houses have auctions in the Monterey area. They run more high end cars through because there's more money there than auction week here in January.

I was going to meet Bob, who lives about 30 minutes away in Hollister, and Bruce, who lives in Solvang, also talked about coming up. Alas, it didn't work out. Finances and health both preclude the trip.
BUT, if I were going I think I'd have to bring this horse home with me. It's being auctioned off by Russo Steele as part of their memorabilia auction just before the car auction. It's not just any horse. This is THE horse that stood behind the desk of Enzo Ferrari for 25 years. It's the original sculpture commissioned and made from the iconic Ferrari logo painted on their first race cars. One of one. How cool would it be to own Enzo Ferrari's horse?
Whaddaya figure? Three or four hundred dollars?
In our adult class (second hour, which we call Foundations) we've just begun a study of the Tabernacle, the site of Israel's worship until the Temple was built by Solomon. Fairly precise instructions on its construction were given to Moses, as recorded in the second half of Exodus. I found a site with a scale model that can be printed out, then cut & assembled. I figured out how to print it in B&W, so everybody's going to cut out their own, then color and tape the pieces together, doing each piece in turn as we study what the Bible says about it. This week: the bronze altar.
Why should the little kids have all the fun. Craft time is for adults, too!
Note: I've warned them; if I catch anyone running with scissors they'll get a 5 minute timeout.
Interesting goings-on within the Roman Catholic Church these days. The Vatican has appointed a three-bishop committee to "reform" U.S. nuns, who aren't happy about getting called on the carpet. The nuns are seen as caring more about social issues affecting women than the Vatican's priorities, including the advancement of the pro-life agenda. Tomorrow (Saturday) the board of the organization that represents 80% of U.S. nuns will meet with the archbishop of Seattle who chairs that three-bishop committee. Oh to be a fly on that wall.
Few people outside the R.C. Church realize that before being elevated to Pope, then-bishop Ratzinger was head of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, the office within the Vatican in charge of maintaining orthodoxy re. R.C. dogma. That is, he was the Vatican's Vice Principal, known for his conservative views and readiness to insure adherence. So this could get interesting.
You've seen some of these, but others are probably new and worth noting.
