Little Known Failures, #1: Pavlov's cats

From my friend Sue

Up at 4 a.m. and had done significant work for Sunday's services before 9:00. Then a 12-mile bike ride with a computer that gave accurate readouts thanks to a single magnet on the spokes. (doh) When I leave on a ride I decide what kind of effort it's going to be, and today the term my mind settled on was "workmanlike." That meant a solid effort, not easy but also not all out. I got back with an average speed of exactly 17 mph. Because that includes stops for red lights it's actually a pretty decent pace. A workmanlike pace.

The rest of the day was pretty frustrating. Too many tasks hit snags. Mama said there'd be days like this. Just one issue after another. Late this afternoon I went to the gym and got my frustrations out with a good sweat.

One of those tasks was to download the drivers for our printer on to Pam's netbook. We've had this printer for several months and I've just never taken the time to do that. If she has something she wants printed she emails it to me and I do it from my Mac. But this evening I finally set about to get the drivers onto her eMachine. Or not.
I hate PCs and Windows. Nothing is intuitive. Nothing works.

We call them fast food joints but their correct name is Quick Service Restaurants and they have their own publication: QSR Magazine. They just came out with the results of a survey they did on drive throughs at the major QSR's. Burger King came out at the bottom. They have the longest wait times, the most frequent "screwed up your order" rate (got it right only 83% of the time), and came in as the rudest group as measured by the use of terms like "please" and "thank you."
Wendy's had the shortest wait times and Chick-Fil-A had the highest "got it right" rate at 92.4%.
I wish we had a Chick-Fil-A or a Wendy's closer. The closest QSR is - you guessed it - BK.

I don't have any trouble getting to sleep, which is why I don't watch MLB. But I passed one while channel surfing tonight and stopped to watch for about 15 minutes.
When did they change the uniform? They used to wear stirrup pants that fit snugly and socks that were team colors. Now they wear baggy pants that hang down over their shoes.
All the talk about the traditions of baseball and how we have to preserve them and they're wearing uniforms straight out of the 'hood?

Chasing Classic Cars reruns are shown at 12:30 p.m. on Velocity so I watch them while I eat lunch. Today Wayne Carini travelled on some guy's private jet to three different locations around the country to help him decide which very expensive classic car to buy. They passed on an Auburn boat tail at an auction when the price went over $600,000 because it was going to take another $50,000 to make it perfect, at which point the car wouldn't be a value.
They ended up in Canada where the guy bought a beautiful classic Mercedes, which Carini then spent the next several months detailing.
This purchase was an addition to his collection which is apparently huge and made up of the finest cars in each of several categories.
I think some people have too much money.
