"The covers of this book are too far apart." - Ambrose Bierce

California

Yeah, it's Sunday night. The usual caveats re. what follows.

Sunday nights at 8 p.m. we watched "Masterpiece Mystery" on PBS until they changed it to "Upstairs Downstairs." Naw. But last week Pam wanted to try a new British drama they show at 7:00, "Call the Midwife." We will not be watching that again, at least not if I'm in the room. It's set in the slums of London in the late 1800's and it follows the work of a group of midwives who help the wretched poor with deliveries (doh!). If there's a man on the face of this earth who willingly watches that drama I don't want to meet him.
Think everything that's... uhm... unpleasant about childbirth with the bonus of horrible poverty and the roughest of people.

We have entered one of the two perfect seasons of the year. They day's high is in the upper 80's and the overnight low in the upper 60's. Humidity in the teens. We spent 17 years living in western Michigan and this stretch was not my favorite. The fall foliage of early October is beautiful but we had four huge maple trees around our house that gave that color as an early warning device of the raking that filled the weeks and weeks following. Then comes the snow.
Miss my Michigan family and dear friends. The weather...not so much.

According to the NBC News poll the gap between the President and Romney narrowed from 4 points on Sept. 29 to 1.4 points yesterday. I guess there was a post-debate shift. This week's VP debate should be fascinating. A wonk and a loose canon.

My fantasy football team is a group of underachievers. Each week Yahoo predicts I should win my matchup with plenty of points to spare, but I may be going down for the second week in a row. To a girl!
Hey, I didn't sign any long term contracts, and any one of these guys could be gone by noon tomorrow if that's what it takes.
