Pretending to be a mature adult is so exhausting.
I didn't post last night because by the time we got home I was far to disgusted to be out in public.
The Rambler died on me, leaving me stuck a mile from a dr. appointment. I know what's happening, just not why or how to fix it. I'm 99.9% certain I'm getting a vapor lock at the inlet to the carb, but there's no good reason that should happen. And aside from never shutting the car off unless it's going to sit for at least an hour to completely cool down I don't have a solution to the problem. A friend with lots of experience with cars suggested making a heat shield and I'd thought of that. But I can't see a way to attach it. I'm hoping for an epiphanette overnight.
I had to call Pam to pick me up and take me to the dr., where I arrived 45 minutes late. Shoulda just skipped it altogether. He says I can't ride the bike for three months. Monday I set a PR for that 19 mile route and two days later I get this?!
But wait! There's more!
I'm now scheduled for tests in January that involve placing objects in openings clearly marked "Exit Only."
This guy starts out unlikeable, even before he does these kinds of things. I'm fine with no bedside manner, but he's curt and condescending. I asked questions and instead of engaging me I felt almost scolded, as though I was challenging his superior knowledge.
So yeah. By the time I got home I was pretty ticked and in no mood to write my usual cheery blog post.
Tonight I'm much better. Except for...
Why did they mess with Velocity? That cable TV channel used to carry car programming almost non-stop throughout the day. Suddenly, about a week ago, it's turned into some kind of cross between the National Geographic Channel and Lifetime TV. In slots (lunchtime) when I used to get a Mecum auto auction, or "Chasing Classic Cars" it's now "Wild Russia" or "Egypt's New Tomb Revealed." What??!!
The Amaryllis apparently decided it was time to kick it into gear after watching the Paperwhites shooting upward. The latter now have buds while the Amaryllis is growing visbly throughout the day. I measured it this morning and will do the same tomorrow morning, but I couldn't help it - I measured it when I got home from the gym earlier. Crazy how much it grew in just 10 hours.
The winning ticket purchased in the Phoenix area wasn't mine so don't bother asking for money. It coulda been mine if I'd bought one.
I heard one guy on TV say that if you lined up a row of pennies from L.A. to Chicago and then marked one of them with an "X" on the underside your chances of winning the lottery would be roughly the same as driving that route, stopping randomly to pick up a penny, and choosing the one with the "X."
Years ago I picked up a paperback book titled "All God's Children and Blue Suede Shoes," written by Ken Myers and published by Crossway. It was good enough that I reread it a few years later and still have it on my shelf. He writes a very thoughtful analysis of art from a Christian perspective. I see that it has been reprinted and is part of a series edited by Marvin Olasky (he's really smart and a good writer, too).
Well worth reading, IMO. It's an easy read, not technical or philosophical. He'll make you think! For example, he says art of any form falls into one of three categories: classical, folk, or pop. He explains the characteristics of each and what they contribute to culture. Are they of equal value? How does each of them influence us for good or evil? Or are they neutral?
Yeah, I think you should probably read this one.

That sounds like a great addition to our homeschool library. We always skimp on art, unfortunately. I've got a plan for next semester, though.
