I understand the intensity of feelings on both sides of the current gun debate but I gotta say, some of what I'm reading from gun owners on Facebook is scary enough to make the case for the other side.
I watched just a few minutes of Meet the Press this morning before leaving for church. The featured guest was Wayne LaPierre, head of the NRA. Whew! He's a little intense.
Been watching some football this afternoon. OK, I've been watching a lot of football, including the Seattle/S.F. game that just started. And I have a question.
The rules allow a defensive player to hit a receiver within five yards of the line of scrimmage so long as the ball hasn't left the QB's hand. After that time, or beyond five yards it's pass interference.
So why don't defensive players line up right across from said receivers and, as soon as the ball is snapped, give the guy a lick that dumps him on his spandex-clad toosh? By the time he's back on his feet his route isn't worth running. And just in case he has thoughts of heading down field pop him again!
I saw an ad for Van-Heusen shirts starring Matthew Stafford, QB for the Lions. They must have got him real cheap, 'cause he stinks.
Which means he's likely to be wearing a Cardinals uniform next season.
Normally movies like "Jack Reacher" would interest me. But even if I could bring myself to spend the money I don't think I can watch a movie with Tom Cruise and take it seriously. At some point - and we've reached it with Tom Cruise - the actor's personal life is such a joke that any movie they make seems like a comedy.
I'm about halfway through "The Litigators" by John Grisham. He's not Dickens and this is not "A Tale of Two Cities," but as a story about three lawyers it's a good read.
I'll read Proust next. Promise.
This takes excessive liberties with the biblical text and perpetuates too many of the western myths, but it's just so darn cute. And kinda fun.

Wayne LaPierre's focus & intensity was equalled by that of moderator Bob Scheiffer & his clear objective to pressure the NRA to take a stand against semi-automatic weapons (not just rifles).
There was hay, and animal poop, and sheep and things! So cute!
On the book front - the Jack Reacher novels are great (probably will wait for DVD on the movie though - not a huge Tom Cruise fan). On the same front, check out Vince Flynn. His Mitch Rapp character is even better.
Merry Christmas!!
