So that's how they do it.
I could do without the TV shows of the season - all those silly cartoons they show every year. In prime time. C'mon, man. Do we need Frosty, and Rudolph, and Mr. Magoo again this year?
Sorry. My inner Scrooge comes through from time to time.
They say we have 360 days of sun per year here in the Phoenix metro area. I haven't kept track through the year but today was one of the five. It sprinkled off and on all day and it was gray all the time. Weird not to see the sun.
Josh & Aubri drove up to Flagstaff, three hours north of here and at 7,000' elevation, so Josh could compete in a Crossfit competition today. They're staying up there overnight because of a major snowfall and almost a dozen accidents on I-17 between here and there.
My younger brother sent this video.
I thought it was a one-off created for this event but it turns out to be a standard piece that's often used as an encore number. I'm impressed with how straight faced they stay.
I spent some time cleaning up the garage. And reorganizing. Most of the parts I took off the VW and put in the cabinets are now back on the car and I *think* the Rambler is officially sorted. That meant it was time to clear the workbench and put some of the things sitting there back on the now-free cabinet shelves. I decided to take wood working tools, used for the teardrop, off their pegs on the wall and put them in the cabinets so I could put wrenches and the like on the wall. Looks pretty trick out there.
In the kitchen I installed a couple of those magnetic strips for holding knives. Yesterday I went up to Home Depot to get plastic racks for holding screw drivers and the like. Turns out they make heavy duty versions of those metal strips that will hold a surprising amount of weight. I got a second one today. Screwdrivers, channel locks, vise grips....
Yeah, that's the old man version of organizing your sock drawer but it gave me a grin, so deal with it.
We're doing the four weeks of Advent at Pathway and tomorrow, the third Sunday, is Joy.
In homiletics class we'd talk about those rare times when the sermon you'd planned should be set aside because of overriding events, either within the congregation or in society. I ditched my sermon the Sunday after 9/11.
So, how 'bout a sermon on Joy two days after 20 children and six adults are murdered?

Go with "Joy" this Sunday. The salvation we enjoy and God's soveriegnty are but two reasons for joy despite the many problems in our world. Sin's effect will always impact us, but Christ is our refuge and we should take comfort and joy in that fact. IMO
