Today I learned:
the meaning of the term "star-crossed." I'd heard it before, as in "star-crossed lovers." I thought it was a good thing, that it described two people meant for each other. This morning a sports commentator referred to Jay Cutler, QB for the Chicago Bears, as a star-crossed player. Huh?
Wikipedia time!
The phrase was first used in Shakespeare's prologue to Romeo and Juliet where the pair are described as star-crossed lovers. The phrase implies that the stars - which by some were viewed as determining the fates of humans - were opposed to the union, that the stars were crossed against the pairing.
So a star-crossed QB should have met with more success than he's had. His career showed more promise than he's realized.
Q: What do you call a guitarist's voicemail?
A: Mommy

Steve & Michelle stopped by this morning with Jason. Because she's been so sick this was Pam's first opportunity to see - and hold - him.
You'll notice the growth on Steve's face. That's because mom & dad are not getting any sleep, and going near your face with a razor blade just wouldn't be smart. Dear Michelle just looks too haggard, and I love her too much to put a pic of her here. Maybe after she's had her first night's sleep.
Q: How do you know when a tenor is at your door?
A: He can't find the key and doesn't know when to come in.
If I understand correctly - and I almost certainly don't - my tax bill is going up about $1,000 and no cuts were made. Decisions about budget cuts have been put off two months and we've got another debt ceiling battle coming. I'm trying to figure out why I should be happy about this.
Q: What do you call a drummer with no girlfriend?
A: Homeless.
Sorry. Long day and I'm feeling it. That's all for tonight, folks.
