"It is impossible to enjoy idling thoroughly unless one has plenty of work to do." - Jerome K. Jerome
This will be brief because I really shouldn't be idling, though I could certainly enjoy it.
The hauler was supposed to show up this morning to load the Chevy and start for Oregon, but I got a call about 9:30 that he had axle trouble and wouldn't arrive until this afternoon, or maybe tomorrow. And instead of arriving in Elmira on Monday it will be Tuesday or Wednesday.
That latter part is fine because it means we don't have to push it to get there before he does. It was going to be tight since we're not leaving until Saturday afternoon. But if I'd known he wasn't going to be here until late afternoon at the earliest I would have taken it over to get an exhaust system on. As it was he "froze" me. If I left at that point for the exhaust shop he'd sure-as-shootin' call to say he was on his way. If I stuck around home...you know the rest.
Almost all the packing that can be done has been done. The rest is all stuff that we'll use and needs to wait until the end. I've got the back "yard" all cleaned up, everything that goes with us taken around to the front, and the pond filled to the brim.
I went to the library and got a John Grisham novel on CDs for Pam to listen to as she drives along behind me. We're a little concerned about that part of this move because she typically falls asleep within minutes of getting in the car, so I'm hoping listening to a book will help keep her awake.
I'll burn it to my iPad and turn it into a playlist so she doesn't have to swap out the 10 CDs in the set. I'm also downloading an Eagles album at her request.
There are long stretches of the drive without radio stations or cell coverage. For the former she'll have my iPad and for the latter we've got the walkie talkies that have been in the bottom of my work bucket for the last eight years. I was surprised they still work. They'll allow either of us to call the other for a rest break, and/or keep each other alert.
I'm past befuddled by the Republican party. Annoyed. Disgusted.
What the right wing did to derail the vote on McCarthy shows them to be a fractured group and gives the impression that they can't run their own party, never mind the country. Good grief.
We're headed into Yogurtini for an informal drop-in gathering of Pathway people, a way for us to say goodbye to those good folks before we head for Oregon. But first a stop for some dinner. Pam worked today (got off early) and most of the cooking stuff is packed.
Actually, I think that may have been a bit of deviousness on her part to get out of fixing meals these last two days.
