"Perfection isn't attainable. But if we chase perfection we can catch excellence." - Vince Lombardi

I went to a CrossFit gym in Eugene yesterday that one of the guys at Emmaus mentioned during Big Table. I was there at 5:30 a.m. because I misunderstood what the gal at the desk told me Sunday afternoon when we stopped by. Should have been there at 5:00 and will be tomorrow when I go back. After six weeks of no workouts I need to get back into this with a M,W,F, schedule for at least a few weeks. I was there for what they call Boot Camp, which is less of a class than a group workout.
Get a sheet of paper with the exercises on it and go through it at your own pace.
Do the exercises.
Leave in pain.
Stay in pain for the rest of the day.
I got a one week pass to try it out but I'm pretty sure I'll join. Their prices are very reasonable and I need the discipline joining provides.

One poll shows Carson has surpassed Trump nationally, but is within the margin of error. Apparently someone asked Carson if he would choose Trump as a running mate and he responded that they're not compatible. Ya think?
Which raises another related question. Imagine - horror of horrors - that Trump got the nomination. Who would be his running mate? Think about the standards and character of someone who wants to be #2 so badly that they'd join that ticket.
FWIW, Mike Tyson has come out for Trump. Pretty much tells the story.

I learned yesterday that the hood latch will arrive tomorrow. I drove up to Junction City yesterday and paid the tab for the exhaust system (looks good!) and met with the estimator from the recommended body shop up the street. He drove down and we talked through things. When the latch arrives I'll drive up to J.C. to install it (can't drive the truck without a hood latch), go to the body shop where he'll do a closer inspection and write up an estimate, and then I'll send that to the trucking company. They'll write me a check and repairs will begin. He said that because there's no painting involved they should get it done in a day and a half, which means I might get the truck back Friday.
Another problem has emerged; the battery won't hold a charge. I don't know if that's because I got a bad battery (it happens) or have a short someplace. If it's the former I'll know as soon as I take it back to O'Reilly's and they put it on their tester. If that shows no problem...I have no idea. Without a fuse block, which Chevy decided wasn't necessary on their trucks in 1959, I don't know how to find the rogue current draw.
The short term hack is to install a battery shut-off switch and I'm not beyond that approach, at least temporarily.
It was gratifying to hear Ken, the owner of J.C. Muffler, call the guy up at the body shop to see if he'd come down to look at it, and describe my truck as "pretty bad a$$."

When we were here this summer working on MoHo Pam mopped the kitchen floor, which looked pretty gross. She used a couple of different solutions, including Pine Sol and Simple Green.
Nothing.
So we decided it was just too far gone and that we'd either have to live with it or, at some point, put down new.
The other day I decided to go old school: down on my hands and knees with Comet and a scrubby. This pic doesn't show the contrast as much as it shows in person, but you get the idea. It's slow work and pretty boring for Mr. ADD, but if I spend 30-45 minutes on it each morning I'll have it done fairly soon.

Just once I'd like to see the DOJ open a civil rights investigation when a Black cop arrests a White perp with a scuffle involved. NOT because I think that would have any likelihood of bearing prosecutorial fruit but because it would provide an ounce of evidence that the DOJ is equitable.
I'm not holding my breath.

So far we really like Oregon but I'd be lying if I said everything thrills me. Having spent eight years in AZ I'm not looking forward to being back in a state that does the whole time change routine. And our shows are all on an hour later. Shows that started at 8 p.m. and stretched my ability to stay awake are on at 9:00 here. And what's with putting real shows on at 9:00?? Who is still awake at 10 p.m.??!!

The World Health Organization says BACON is a carcinogen and significantly raises the risk of colon cancer. I wonder if they noticed that last week the FDA changed its mind and said whole milk is fine and presents no health risks. This after regular milk was so demonized that it's not available in any public school in the U.S.

Update on Fred: two of the old timers at the coffee shop are bringing mega bottle jacks tomorrow and one of them is also bringing some steel plates to set them on. I'll jack up the west side of Fred and, following their good advice, make three 4'x4' slabs, each formed with 2x6's. The pier blocks will sit on those slabs which will eliminate the potential for erosion like I've got now. Then, instead of rounds I'll make hefty posts out of three 2x6's glued & screwed together. Drop Fred down on this new foundation, put on new skirting and go on to the interior renovation.
It's going to be a lot of work and stretch my skills, but she's going to be rock solid and on the level when I'm done.
