"The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money." - Margaret Thatcher
Today I installed baseboard and window trim, and window blinds.
Except I didn't get either one done.
I didn't buy enough window trim because I mis-measured and don't have the four 8' pieces I need to do the two living room windows. And the window blinds turned out to be a disaster. Because I went in expecting to buy honeycomb shades my measurements were for top mount, where it's better to err on the side of too short. But they were too expensive so I changed my mind in the store, got roll shades, used the same measurements, and discovered today that width is critical and they're too short (narrow). The hack job I tried to narrow the width only served to aggravate me.
I gave up.
We'll stop at Lowe's on the way home from church tomorrow to get the window trip and I'll get the appropriate thickness of something - plywood? - to narrow the window opening.
The truck's hood latch didn't come today. I'm supposed to pick up the truck Monday morning but that's not gonna work without a latch.
Now what??
This whole mess is one hassle after another.
Once a month Emmaus Life Church does what they call "Big Table," and tomorrow is that Sunday. Instead of a worship service the pastor gives a brief devotional, they do communion, and spend most of their time in a brunch potluck. We'll give it a try, but I admit to going into it with reservations. I believe in the primacy of corporate worship and the preaching of God's Word. Connection with other believers is important, but my walk with God needs the weekly reorientation that comes from an extended time of vertical focus. I wish it weren't an either/or, that we didn't set aside worship for fellowship. Maybe I'll feel differently after experiencing their custom, and I'm committed to giving it a fair shake.
Bernie Sanders says he's a democratic socialist. I don't know exactly what he means by that but it sounds like we ask the majority of people if they want the money of the wealthy minority, as opposed to taking it away from them by fiat.
I'm guessing that's an idea the masses would back.
I suppose this means we're legally and officially Oregon residents now. Drivers' licenses and plates. And we got a tax bill this week, which seals the deal.
Rain is a sure thing tomorrow and the forecast is for 1/2" during the day. This will be our first good rain since moving here, having only had a couple of days of drizzle so far. I'm cautiously optimistic that we've got the place ready for the heavy precip that will only increase as winter progresses. Except for the truck which has no wipers.
I'm designing the chicken coop in my head. In Spanish it's gallinero, one of the words I learned in CR. I may make a sign over the door that says Mi Gallinero.
I need to do something besides MoHo renovations. This thing is built so poorly - forget square and level - and the years haven't made it any better. I decided there's a reason they didn't install baseboards and window trim: things are so crooked it would only highlight the bad construction. The new construction of a coop, or building back the interior of Fred after taking it down to the studs, will be easy by comparison.
