Men are like steel. When they lose their temper they lose their worth." - Chuck Norris

I regularly visit some liberal news/opinion sites so I can get a glimpse of our world from their perspective. They are every bit as biased as the right wingers, able to see in any event that which bolsters their viewpoint.
I got a surprise from one of those liberal sites this week. The Daily Beast abandoned its usual condemnation of the pilgrims for their brutal treatment of the indigenous peoples and recast them as the original refugees who set a pattern for all Americans that follow.
From cultural rapists to sympathetic examples.

I heard bits and pieces of a Terry Gross interview (NPR, Fresh Air) with Richard Carpenter, of the early 70's duo, The Carpenters. His sister, Karen, died from complications of anorexia. Fascinating interview that left me impressed with his musical skills and Karen's vocal abilities. PBS is going to rerun a documentary on the Carpenters in late November or early December, depending on your local station's programming. Unfortunately, the Carpenters don't seem to have made an impression in Oregon, because our PBS station isn't airing it. I'm disappointed.

Turns out you can paint a chicken coop with temps in the upper 30's. I also got four of six sides of the trim boards primed. Tomorrow I'll prime the other two sides and, if there's time, get them painted with the color coat. It's supposed to rain M, T, & W of next week so I may not get the exterior done until next weekend.
Pam really wanted a Dutch door on the front of the coop, but I explained that made no sense. We'd never open the top or the chickens would fly out. So we settled on a faux Dutch door. Except that today, while painting the coop, I decided the door is too small to look anything but silly even with a faux version. I told her that, and that I had a plan to make it up to her, a plan I'll keep as a surprise.
I'm going to put a small porch on the front of the coop, complete with a railing. It needs a step, because the floor of the coop is about 14" off the ground, so I'll just make that step go all the way across the front (5'), make it a little deeper than normal, and put a very basic railing around it. She'll love it. The word cute will be used.
