This morning I learned the term 5th column. I knew 4th estate, but heard this one for the first time on a news show this morning. Am I the last guy in the room?
The discussion in which the term came up had to do with the number of middle eastern immigrants in European countries and here. An argument is quickly brewing about allowing immigrants into our country, and at least two dozen governors have already said they object to the acceptance of immigrants from the mid-east into their states. In a NYT editorial Mitt Romney said we should stop allowing them in on a national level. He wrote that women and children might be excepted, but young adult males should be excluded.
Is this unAmerican? Or a reasonable step to preserve the safety and security of our citizens?
Cf. 5th column, above.
I got the framing issues on the coop addressed before the rains started a little after noon. I'm now ready to put the roof sheeting, tar paper, and rolled roof on, but we're supposed to have nonstop rain for the next couple of days. We may get some clearing Wednesday afternoon, and if we do I'll get that done. In the meantime I'll work inside Fred, ripping out the rest of the paneling and insulation.
Josh had a short workday and called us on his way home at noon. It was great to talk to him; been too long. I miss my kids.
We live four miles north of Elmira, which is four miles north of Veneta. The former is unincorporated and the latter has about 1,700 residents. The area is so rural and sparsely populated that everyone's phone number starts with the same prefix. So if someone's telling you their number they just give you the last four digits. All our phone numbers start with 935.
My writing project is to the point where I need my books. They're packed in about a dozen boxes and stored in the small storage unit we rented. Until Fred is done I don't have anywhere to put them, so they might as well all be in AZ. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about this problem.
