"You can tell when a man is well informed. His views are pretty much like your own." - H. Jackson Brown Jr.
Our property is a mix of Douglas Fir and Alder. The leaves are now off those Alder trees and the difference has surprised us. A month ago we could sit in the living room and hear vehicles going up and down Baker Rd. Now we can see them. When we moved in we talked about leaving all the widows without any covering to save money and preserve the beautiful view out all sides. Once the temperatures started dropping we decided to install pull-down shades or mini-blinds on each of the windows for the insulation value and to cut down on the heavy condensation that was forming on the old single pane glass. That turns out to have been a good decision for the privacy factor, too. If we can see out to the cars they can see into MoHo.
I found a really cool business in Portland called Salvage Works that sells reclaimed wood and architectural salvage. I'm starting to think about what I'll do with Fred's interior and I see all kinds of possibilities here. At this point I'm planning on a wainscot of reclaimed barnwood laid on each wall in a herringbone pattern. Or maybe I mean chevron. Just one angle in the center of each wall.
What to do for a desk? I've thought about an old door set on reclaimed table legs and covered with a glass top. But I also like those live edge slabs of wood.
Portland is a 2-hour drive from here, but that may have to become an outing in another month or so.
For $14.95 I had the use of a 5'x8' enclosed U-Haul trailer for the day, and used it for a little over two hours to bring home eight sheets of primed T1-11 and fourteen 1"x4"x8' pine boards that will become the trim. It's supposed to start raining about midnight and continue right on through tomorrow night, so it will be Wednesday before I start installing any of that. Tomorrow I'll work inside Fred.
Maybe.
Pam's been dog sick with a nasty cold for about three days. I feel like it's tightening its grip on my body.
Fight. This. Off.

The dual cell pull down blinds have helped a lot with insulating against the heat in our house - I imagine if you turn them around backwards you can keep the heat in????????? :)
I'm concerned you discussed leaving all the widows uncovered to save money and preserve views.
When the alders have their leaves we're very isolated. Deep in the woods. It's OK, really it is.
Oh, I believe it would have been okay if you had typed "... all the windows without any covering..." but you had " ... all the widows..." so I feared you had left multiple women whose husbands had passed away around Moho and they were uncovered and we both know how cold it gets in Oregon this time of year, despite how much money you might save or views would be preserved. ;-)
Ah!
The view of uncovered widows might be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on the particular widows involved.
