We left Seattle at 8:30 and pulled up to MoHo at 3:00. I'd never driven through Seattle at the speed limit for the whole distance. That was almost fun!
It's five hours of drive time, but we added in a stop for gas, for lunch, for picking up the dog, and to buy a window for Fred's loft at the discount place in Junction City.
I'm pooped, but it was a great trip. Thursday was all about mom's 93rd birthday, culminating with dinner at Arnie's in Edmunds (great food, including the mussels as an appetizer) and then to Mark & Mimi's for visiting and more wonderful food, including Swedish rice, Swedish meatballs, cinnamon rolls, and a variety of Christmas cookies, almost all of it done from scratch by Mimi. She's good!
Christmas morning Scott & Lora headed back to Spokane to celebrate the day with their kids and grandkids and Mark & Mimi celebrated the day with their kids and grandkids, so Pam and I got the folks all to ourselves. Pam and I are blessed to have all but her dad still with us, and a relaxed day visiting with mom and dad was perfect.
Because my laptop got left behind I wasn't able to write about developments after our departure, so here's some bullet points to summarize.
- Almost all of the drive up was done in a downpour that slowed us down and made it stressful.
- We stopped in Albany to look at the D River model at the Palm Harbor dealer there. We liked what we saw and learned, and agree that it makes a very viable - maybe preferred - option to building a tiny house from scratch. This model comes in at 975 square feet compared to the 900 of our tiny house sketch when the loft is included. Lots more homework to do, and we'll go back up and take their factory tour sometime. But this possibility warrants more research.
- I got up early Thursday morning and dressed in the dark so Pam could sleep. While putting on my jeans I lost my balance and put my left foot out & back to catch myself. My heel hit the corner of the wall just above the base molding: OUCH! It peeled back a piece of skin about the size of a quarter and it bled quite a bit. It also bruised the back of my heel making putting on a shoe pretty painful and walking uncomfortable.
- I met friend Jim for coffee Thursday morning. I always leave our conversations more informed.
Emmaus isn't meeting tomorow. The pastor said too many people were likely to be gone so they cancelled church. We decided we won't go someplace new, but to Starbucks instead. That isn't as bad as it sounds because I'll work on my project and Pam will work on her Sunday School lesson for the kids next Sunday. That said, I wish they hadn't cancelled.
