"Legends die hard. They survive as truth rarely does." - Helen Hayes

Two months in and we're still learning how to make rural life as efficient as possible. Last night I set a fan up on the kitchen side of the wood stove blowing toward the living room and hallway to the bedroom. It seems to make a big difference, evening out the heat from room to room, and even within the living room. To the extent we can do that we can also reduce the amount of wood we have to burn.
We can't have ceiling fans; in addition to the absence of any power available in the ceilings they're too low for a fan. So we notice a temp difference between sitting and standing. The fan helps with that, too.

They've officially ID'd the cause of that Elmira fire as marijuana manufacture related. Turns out the real potency - and money - is in cannabis oil, which is made by soaking the leaves in liquid butane and then cooking that mush. Uhm...am I the only one who sees just a wee bit of risk in that venture?
The name of the guy's business is Genesis Pharms. Clever.
The news article said there's been a steep rise in the number of explosions and fires since the legalization of marijuana. Ah, the Law of Unintended Consequences.

Meanwhile, the shoot-'em-up was a home invasion. The bad guy went to the wrong home first, shot that place up, and then went around the corner to the house he meant to hit in the first place. Killed the husband, shot the wife, and then turned the gun on himself. They're still trying to figure out a motive.

We watched most of last night's debate. For the life of me I can't figure out how anyone who claims to respect biblical values and behaviors can support Trump. He's a bully, foul mouthed, egotistical, and mean to others. Never mind that his policy positions are beyond problematic, if he were your kid you'd give him a sound thrashing. And talk about "doesn't play well with others"....

The local weather guy just said, "2"- 4" of rain in the next 24 hours."

I got all the demo stuff into the dumpster and dug eight post holes. The latter are the start of a wood shed that will have a 4'x4' lockable storage room at one end. It will hold the generator, garden tools, and some odds and ends in order to free up room in Barnette for the truck. The wood shed part will hold about 2.5 cords which should be a winter's worth of firewood based on our current burn rate.

We leave a week from today to visit my folks in Seattle. We're eager to see them and enjoy a relaxed visit for a few days. My mom's 93rd birthday is Christmas Eve so that's an added reason for the trip.
And who ever thought going to Seattle would mean - OK, might mean - less rain?!

You have acclimated to rural life in OR just fine. 8 post holes in AZ would take 5 days to dig with a 16 lb steel spike and a rotation of flooding and digging.
