"Sin has many tools, but a lie is the handle which fits them all." - Edmund Burke

We're sitting in a Motel 6 in Clackamas OR so our drive to the airport tomorrow takes 20 minutes instead of two and a half hours.
One more sleep and we'll see our kids!

I skipped the coffee shop this morning so I could get the last of the three windows installed in Fred. This one didn't go in easily because the 2x4 across the top had sagged about 1/8", but with a little help from my belt sander I got it in place. I still have to spray in the foam sealer and come up with something for the trim around each window's exterior that looks right next to the beautiful old cedar shingles, but that can wait.

At about 11:15 Pony showed up with a cord of wood, and by 1:30 I had it stacked in the woodshed. Assuming it was indeed a cord I did my math wrong (no surprise there) and can actually get close to 4 cords of wood in the shed.
Getting a cord of wood from the front of Barnette to the shed and then stacked comes pretty close to real work.

We left MoHo about 2:30 and had an uneventful drive up I-5, checked into the motel, and then risked an agonizing death by eating at a Chipotle nearby. So far so good.

I'm disappointed in the Republican candidates. None of them think Obama's measures to expand background checks, fund research on gun safety technology, and hire more ATF agents is a good idea. I expected that. But the inflammatory language they used to denounce his actions is just over the top. Nothing he said restricts the right to own any kind of firearm. It doesn't add a single new requirement to any part of the gun industry. It doesn't even expand the factors that would disqualify someone from buying a gun. The most "drastic" of his orders makes gun show and online sellers of firearms subject to the same background check requirements that brick-and-mortar gun store owners must meet.

How in the name of all that's rational is that a bad thing?!
No, Ted Cruz, Obama does not want our guns.
Marco Rubio, he has no plan to take away our guns.
Jeb, his actions do not trample on the Second Amendment.
Hey Carly, his move is neither lawless nor unconstitutional.
Dr. Ben, this is not about advancing his political agenda; you don't shed tears over a political agenda.

I don't believe them. I don't think they really object that strongly to the President's actions on principle. I think they are engaging in that old political past time: pandering to the base.
Not surprising, but disappointing.
