"Life consists not in holding good cards, but playing those you hold well." - Josh Billings
The final sanding was done by lunch and by dinner the ceiling was painted and the walls primed. I'll be at Lowe's tomorrow when they open to get the paint for the walls and wainscoting, then to the coffee shop, from thence to the barber, and then home to take up brush and roller.
The chicks are almost fully fledged, which means they're getting up on top of the waterer and the feeder. The latter isn't sturdy enough to support their weight so it tips over and spills the feed. I've got to come up with a solution for that.
One week from tonight, after 25 hours of travel I'll arrive in Dar es Salaam. We're getting down to the detail stage, so today's email exchange involved things like proper attire for teaching sessions (dress pants, shirt, and tie), options for translating some of the words on my handouts, and what gift to take to the four teachers Ill meet with at the Bible institute (nice pens and a copy of my book).
That attire issue means I'll be making a trip to Goodwill in the next couple of days. We live in the woods and attend a church where wearing a tie would lead to people to wonder if I was going to a job interview after the service. I have about six ties and I'm not sure any of them match the 8-10 button-down shirts I own. I can't see a reason to spend the kind of money they charge for new dress shirts and ties, and I'm willing to bet the pastors from villages in remote Tanzania aren't fashion critics. So, Goodwill it is.
In response to the attacks in Brussels Ted Cruz said we should "patrol and secure" Muslim neighborhoods here in the States.
Really??
Am I the only one who thinks that sounds a lot like what led to the Jewish ghettos of pre-war Europe?
How can he think that's appropriate?!
Craig Sager says he's been given 3-6 months to live because of the return of his leukemia. That's sad. Such an upbeat guy who knows his stuff and is respected by his peers. And a classy dresser!
(He doesn't shop at Goodwill.)
I'm gonna miss mi esposa when I'm in Africa, and for most of that time I'm off the grid, so we can't have our normal daily conversation.
Dislike.
