"The only reason I would take up jogging is so that I could hear heavy breathing again." - Erma Bombeck
Back to Puerto Rico for a moment.
Fidel drove me to the airport for the trip home, with Pastor Miguel in the back seat. Fidel is probably near 60 and is a very quiet man, maybe the least talkative person I've ever met. When he does talk you have to strain to hear what he's saying. But it's worth the effort; he's a smart guy.
He drives a 2007 Mustang GT; 300 hp, a 5-speed manual, and an exhaust grumble that would make even my mother grin.
Fidel speaks very little English so Miguel translated for me: "Will the tires come loose?"
A few minutes later we were on a straight stretch of road that, at 5:30 a.m., was deserted. Fidel stopped the car, turned off the traction control, and accelerated.
Yes, it will break the tires loose in both first and second gears.
Sweet!
I've got a cold. Not sweet.
Don't tell me you haven't wondered!

Fred is ready for the next step. The only question is which part of the project to do now. I want to "wrap" the pine beams that support the loft using cedar. That's going to be a little tricky because I don't have a table saw and the dimensions are weird. They're 2 1/2" wide and 5" tall.
With the rough electrical now done and the insulation all in I could start drywall.
I don't have the trench dug for the 6 ga wire that will run from MoHo's panel down to Fred to supply the electric. The problem: I will rent a walk-behind to dig the req'd 24" deep trench and we're supposed to have rain for the next seven days. I think that key step has to wait.
I picked up the two Buff Orpington chicks today.

We now have the eight layers that will make up our flock, assuming the folks at the hatchery got it right. They promise an 85% accuracy at sexing chicks, so the odds are in my favor. In that case we'll get a rooster in about three months. If not, we'll have fewer layers and one or more roosters already in our flock.
While I was at the feed store I noticed that they also sell turkey chicks, including heritage turkeys. Our friends Bruce & Debby have four Bourbon Red turkeys that we saw on our vacation last summer and we were struck by their beauty and disposition. So next spring we may get a couple of these for pets. They'll follow you around like a puppy and spend their off time eating pests.
Tuesday the dermatologist took a couple of spots off my nose by freezing them. He sprays something really cold out of a special aerosol can - ouch - that instantly kills the cells. I couldn't tell what he'd done for a day after, but now I have two pretty obvious blotches on my pretty obvious nose. I forget about them until I look in a mirror, and then I feel sorry for the people I talk to who have to try to ignore them.
They've issued some pretty severe wind warnings for the area, including 80 mph gusts out on the coast 50 miles to our west.
Note: we live in the middle of the woods, surrounded by 100'+ fir trees.

Feel free to come up to my garage and rip to your heart's content on my table saw - & you could run up the road to visit the folks. Wish you could fit that in before your next trip to Tanzania. Regardless, the offer is there....
