"If you board the wrong train it's no use running along the corridor in the other direction." - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

Our '09 Kia Sorrento, purchased used from a dealer in Mesa, AZ six years ago has now passed 110,000 miles. It has been, is, and we hope will continue to be a reliable workhorse. It's beginning to look its age on the inside, but since we moved to Baker Rd. it's hauled lumber, cement, and miscellaneous building supplies, so it's honest wear.

Today I got the electrical set up for the hand dug well that will provide irrigation water. Because it's right next to a fir tree and its big roots I couldn't get a 4x4 in the ground, so I used a T-stake and then clamped a 2x4 to it. The pump installation will wait for another SS check or two.

George is one of the old guys who's a regular at the coffee shop. He's a jack of all trades who had a small engine shop back in the day. He still does some of that work on the side, but at his own pace. Which these days is slow.
I like George a lot. He laughs easily and has been a wealth of knowledge on all kinds of things.

After a conversation about it before I went to TZ and a phone call Saturday afternoon we arranged that I would take my wheel barrow to the coffee shop this morning. He had a longer axle and another wheel.
I now own a customized version set up for off-road duty.
I can move it with one hand, it won't tip if a heavy load gets slightly off-center, and it rolls more easily on uneven ground, of which I've got plenty. The only trick is relearning how to turn. It doesn't work like a bicycle anymore - lean the wheel to one side to turn that direction.

I still have to get the galvanized wire that will run between the posts but the hardware is all installed so the Marion berry canes can be trained. One year's canes bear the following year and then die, so we won't get any this year.

The blueberries will bear this year based on the number of blossoms they have/had, but I need to get a more substantial system for protecting them from deer and birds as they grow. This will do for now.

I also got the area cleared where the compost bin will go. Next time we're in town I'll get the 4x4's and fence boards to make it, and then we'll get to work creating next year's topsoil. I'm keeping my eye out for the neighbors across the road, the couple that raises Arabian horses. I covet their manure.

And this afternoon I went to the gym for the first time since before I went to Puerto Rico. At least three months ago. I don't have a picture of that because pain doesn't show up, even with a digital cell phone camera.
A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single burpee.
