"Laziness is nothing more than the habit of resting before you get tired." - Jules Renard

Oh my. So much in my head. So here comes a partial brain dump:

Those JW's who come to your door Saturday mornings have been told by their leaders that they are the few, the righteous, the redeemed. The world hates them because the world is evil and their job is to preach the truth whether or not it is received. In fact rejection, they are told, is evidence, proof, that they are indeed the righteous because, as we all know, the evil world system hates those who are chosen by God. Every time a door is closed in their face it's proof they are righteous.
If, perchance, someone responds to their preaching it's proof that they are being used by God to save others who have been called.
That's like a reverse Catch-22. If it goes badly it's proof you're right. If it goes well it's proof you're right. Score!!

Reminds me of a certain political campaign. The mainstream politicians and the press hate us because we're the only ones telling the truth. The more they rail against us the more it proves we're right. In this case they're not evil so much as plotters and/or stupid. Those who agree with us are the only people who see the truth and can be a part of the deliverance.

I try to do my homework. I still get it wrong sometimes, but before I make a move of any significance I learn all I can. Buying an old vehicle, a dog, or goats. So I've been online reading up on raising goats, wethers, for meat, learning about space requirements, feed needs, and potential problems, including predators.
Three miles from us is Elmira Lockers, a small business that rents out freezer lockers for folks who, for example raise a steer (or a goat) for meat but don't have a big enough freezer to store the meat. But what I really care about is that the husband of the husband/wife owners has a box truck set up to butcher on site. Call him and he'll show up, kill and butcher your animal at your place, cut and wrap the meat as you want, and then, if you need it, rent you the freezer locker to put it in. I think he charges $100 to kill, butcher, and wrap.
Yeah, but what if I did that myself? Hey, I raised and butchered rabbits in CA and MI. Are goats just bigger?

We can't watch videos online here at the house because we have a limited data allowance through our satellite-provided internet. Our custom is to go to Starbucks Sunday morning before church, and typically go to the location inside of Fred Meyer. If we've got videos we want to watch that's when it happens.

That explains why I didn't want anyone looking over my shoulder this morning as I watched You Tube videos about butchering goats. And yes, the irony of watching those videos and then going off to church occurred to me.

Like Orthodox Judaism, Fundamental Islam has strict rules about the killing and butchering of (clean) animals. The word is halal, which means acceptable in Arabic. Halal requires that animals be killed as quickly as possible and with everything possible done so that the animal is at peace when it dies.
There is NO slaughter of any animal in this video. Promise! But it's a fascinating presentation by a Muslim on the proper way to prepare an animal for halal slaughter.
What do you think??
Note: at the end, unless you stop it this video will go automatically to Part Two where the actual killing is shown. If you want links to videos on how to skin and butcher a goat I've got for those, too. Different methods, some very much like butchering rabbits, some more like field dressing a deer and surprisingly efficient.

Could I do this? Should I do this?? Or should I pay the $100 to have the town butcher do it?

The International Olympic Committee chose the coward's way out. Bailed. Threw the whole thing back to the individual sports' sanctioning bodies. Disappointing, if not surprising.

My knee hurt quite a bit yesterday so the run I'd planned after we got back from the dog show didn't happen. This afternoon I went out and did an LSD - Long, Slow, Distance. OK, long is relative at this point; the word longer is more accurate. I did 2.5 miles, halfway down Sheffler and back. Because that distance doesn't include more than about 20 yards of flat ground I feel confident about doing 3.1 miles at the race, which is described as "flat and fast."
Tomorrow I'll go down to the track at the H.S. and see what happens when I run for pace.

Tonight's dinner included beans and peas from our garden. This is good.
