"I never drink coffee at lunch. I find it keeps me awake for the afternoon." - Ronald Reagan
The point is not whether Mr. and Mrs. Khan are politically motivated; let's assume that they are. What's notable is Trump's reaction and what it says about his temperament and suitability to be President, never mind his illogical and ill-informed positions on everything from Muslims to Crimea.
This whole mess makes me angry. And the weak spine of GOP leadership increases my ire.
Today's picture leaves me with mixed emotions. The truck was transported via AAA flatbed over to Leroy who will rebuild or replace the transmission, whichever is cheaper. He said it will probably be Thursday before he can pull it and take a look, which means it will be next week before I get it back. If it's a rebuild he'll have to get the parts, and if it needs replacing the "new" one will have to come from the junkyard in Springfield.
I'm eager to begin driving it, but the string of problems I've had over the last nine months has my gut fearing "what's next?" Frankly, I despair of ever having a trouble free truck, but instead being in a perpetual state of fixing the next issue.
I'll be gone for about 11 days next month when we go to AZ to visit the kids & grandkids. The 12-year old across the road will take care of the chickens for me while we're away but I want to make that as easy as possible and remove the likelihood of issues, which means getting an automatic water system set up. Today I learned that they make nipples similar to the waterers used in hamster cages, but for chickens. And they're red because, the gal at the feed store tells me, chickens are naturally drawn to red and will peck at them.
"Oh look! I get water when I do that. I'll do it again!"
So before we go I want to get a pump installed on the irrigation well that will feed a 55 gallon drum ($20 from a guy nearby) that should hold enough water for the entire time we're gone. That means the kid will only have to fill the feeder and collect eggs.
But that irrigation well (a 20' deep hole in the ground with water at 10') is next to where the trees will come down, so I'll wait until all the logging equipment is gone before putting in the pump.
BTW, we bailed on that pool party yesterday. We helped with the move to the new church and decided we weren't up to hanging out with people who don't know us and don't seem particularly good at making new people feel included.
This is a United Methodist church with a building about 10-15 years old that looks very...Methodist. Traditional architecture, mauve theater seats, classic pulpit....
...on which the preacher left his sermon notes.
I peaked. meh. Typical United Methodist feel-good. Sin is bad because it messes up our insides and our relationships, but don't feel shame because shame is bad and causes bad things like suicide and substance use. It's all OK, just stop doing sin stuff.
Today's 3-miler was mostly no fun, and my knee hurts. But we're 12 days away from that race and my competitive nature has a firm grip on the throat of my good judgment, so I'm thinking ahead to tomorrow's workout at the H.S. track and reducing my mile time by 10%.
No fool like an old fool.
