You can't smoke a pipe wrench

WE have both been afflicted with a serious case of lazy today, made worse with the drama of the Olympics on TV. Too easy to get caught up on one sport after another.

It's frustrating because NBC is showing everything on a time delay to fit each time zone. Because we're on the west coast that means the events have been done for 5 hours before they're on TV here. So if I'm not careful with what I look at online I know results before the sport has even appeared on TV.  That happened today with the men's cycling event.

The Scandia Race (5k) is one week from today. Pam did a 3-mile walk at a brisk pace because she's worried about being the last one to finish. I did a 4-mile run down the hill and back up (ugh) because my goal is to finish at least third in my age division. I figure if I can do 4 miles of hills then doing 3.1 miles on the flat should be easier. The hills give me strength and the track work that I did again yesterday at the H.S. track should help me with pace. If (!) my age group is similar to last year's then the posted results say anything under 30 minutes should get me into third and I did today's hill route at that pace. If three 65-69 year old cheetahs show up this year all hope is lost.

Tomorrow begins the new routine at church because of the move to the United Methodist building in west Eugene. The service will be at 6 pm insted of in the morning. It has been our custom to go to Starbucks for about 90 minutes before going on to church, then lunch at Carl's Jr. afterward. We still haven't decided what we're going to do tomorrow.
And it dawned on me yesterday that this new schedule is going to seriously impinge on Sunday night football come fall.

The Olympics provide a welcome break from political coverage.

We're really enjoying this year's The Great British Baking Show. In previous seasons we've each had a favorite, someone we wanted to win. This year we've enjoyed all of the contestants and will be happy with whoever wins.

It's time for dessert. Pam bought me some ice cream to go with the chocolate cake she baked. That combo and a cup of coffee is going to be a very good end to this day!
